I like the Shun Cutlery Classic Rocking Knife geometry but want to try something less $ before I buy a $200ish knife.

Honestly there arent whole ton of directly comparable knives that come to mind. It's essentially an extra tall 7" gyuto. The shortest most gyutos come is 210mm which is like 8.25" or so, and even then its rare to find one with that blade height, though i haven't been able to find anywhere the exact height on tht shun. Cutlery and more has a couple similar... henckels, wusthof, but if youre willing to spend near the $200 range I would say try to contact a custom maker here.

Thank you. I hope there is another suggestion. I simply want to try the geometry before I spend much money. The knife is odd the huge belly would be great for chopping herbs.

Friedrich Dick makes a 9" so-called "trimming knife" in their ErgoGrip series with an extra broad blade that I use instead of a chef's knife. You might give that a look. I often use it for rocking cuts, in addition to all the usual maneuvers. :)
