Alternative to snaps?

Hey guys trying my hand at making a leather sheath and wondering I'd there is some alternative to using a snap on the strap that holds the knife handle. Can't figure out how to post a picture of what I'm talking about but hopefully you understand.

I like the little stud idea where could you buy something like that? Not sure about the Velcro seems like a cheap way to finish a project I spent all weekend working on

The Sam Browne studs are available from Tandy/Leather Factory. Stock number 1309-02 for the Nickel over Brass. Be sure to buy the little setting anvil they recommend. Another alternative is the "Morseth" style retention loop. Google Morseth knives and you should find some photos of his sheaths. He is deceased so there won't be any current work.

I use industrial strength Velcro often. It works for me with belt loops, as well as flaps on folder sheaths.
For the belt loops, the loop is two-piece leather, one from the top overlapping the lower one, with Velcro holding them together. The 'shear strength' of industrial strength Velcro is amazing. On a folder sheath flap, a 'dot' of Velcro on a molded flap is more than enough to secure it. I also use Velcro on modular sheaths that I make, based on the old Gerber Gardian sheaths; belt, boot, and shoulder 'bases' that attach to the sheath with a full Velcro backing. Wonderful stuff.
