The Spyderco Sharpmaker has 2 settings: 30deg and 40deg. I need 20deg. Is there any similar system to the Sharpmaker that goes to 20?

You should have multiple systems if you aren't willing to pay top dollar. The Lansky to me compliments the Sharpmaker nicely.

The above post is correct, the 30° and 40° settings are inclusive. A 20° inclusive edge would be pretty ridiculous, not to mention quite weak. If you really want to go with a narrower bevel than allowed by the sharpmaker you can simply use the 30° setting and simply lean the blade slightly toward the stone as you make your passes. It may not be as precise but with a steady hand you can create any angle you like.

i dont get the mousepad, sandpaper method when i tried it the sandpaper lost its grit in just a few swipes....guess i was doing it wrong

It just seems that way, it's still covexing the edge even after 10 mins on one grit, it still is. Gotta stick with it. I take mine on these grits: 220, 320, 800, 1000, 2000, leather strop. HAIR SHAVING every time, then just maintain with 2000 and strop.

i am assuming the sandpaper is the automotive type? gonna have ti give it another go just got an old shrade ph2 made in usa thing is nice. it is just begging for a convexed edge
