The Benchmade Bedlam is a gorgeous piece of hardware. The large size, secure grip and the middle-eastern style curved blade are just what I'd been looking for. There are two fatal flaws though:
1. It's a switchblade. While there are ways I can legally obtain and own it, they are not an easy path, and while I could open-carry it, I would rather have something I can concealed carry too (no length limit where I am).
2. It costs $275. I don't have that kinda dough.

An recommendations on a similarly designed folder? Or, heard any whispers of a non-auto version?

The only thing I can think of is a Spyderco Persian.

there is supposed to be a g10 version of the spyderco persian coming out soon. there is also the spyderco chinook.

Cold Steel also makes, or made something called the 'Scimitar' with a similar style. I can't comment on the quality but according to the video it's good for punching through the hood of a car.

Benchmade is indeed making a manual version of my personal favorite, the Benchmade Bedlam. It comes in plain edge or half serrated and you can also choose between a black coated blade or a satin blade. They are already available.
