Anyone have an alternative to carrying a fixed blade on the belt? I currently carry my FB between 4:00 and 5:00 on my body. However, it is difficult to grab while I'm wearing a jacket and untucked shirt. Suggestions?

Try Robert Humelbaugh at www.survivalsheath.com

I carry his cross chest and shoulder rigs for several fixed blades. He does great work and can help you work up what will serve you best.

You could also carry cross-draw from a horizontal sheath system, worn at approx. 10:00-11:00. Comfort of this carry system relies on the size of the knife, but 3-4" blade should be no problem.

I'm interested in this "pocket holster." Details?

I'm not too keen on cross draw or a chest-sheath system, because both of those methods are still inaccessable when I'm wearing a jacket. Unless I wear it on the outside. Which would look ridiculous.

Don Cowles has a good method for carrying in the pocket. It's essentially a pouch sheath with a William and Henry clip to hold it on the pocket. His secret ingredient is a magnet sown between the leather sheath and a pigskin liner. The magnet holds the knife in, the clip holds the pouch on your pants in your pocket.

Midget, there are several kinds of pocket holster. Check out Mika's Pocket Holsters and A.G.Russell's Woodswalker (Search).

I have a small Dawson fixed blade in a Kydex sheath, where the Kydex on the right side comes up higher than the left but was folded back down to make a clip that holds the edge of the pocket. It also works IWB.

If its a small enough blade try carrying it horizontally on your belt. Carried my Bearclaw like that fo years and love it.

Here are a few options for you..

Neck sheath
Static cord in a pant or coat pocket
Inverted clipped to the inside pocket of a coat
Horizontal carry on a belt

Start wearing suspenders and you can clip a knife to them with a tek-lok (I do this when hunting).

I have used/made pocket sheaths before and like them a lot but they're really only suited for small fixed blades.

Here's one I made for my Chipmunk and can be carried clipped to a pocket like a folder...

With my Ronin I first removed the retention adjustment screw from its sheath to make the draw more smooth. Then I put it in my front right pocket slanted so as not to expose the butt even when seated. Open my pants carefully so as not to change the position of the knife in the pocket then I tie it down with a thick rubber band. With my hand in my pocket I can deploy the Ronin the fastest among all concealed carry method - warm or cold weather.

Just came back from the "y".My FB Lum Tanto rides in a fannypack while working out and going to and from in workout clothes.I leave it so the handle sticks out some, since its black as is the bag it kind of hides. Not the fastest, but faster than going home for it.;)

I would like to see a fannypack for knives like I have for my pistols.Grab, rip open and there is a fb in quick draw type sheath.

The fixed blade I am referring to is a Strider SA. Not a large knife.

Check out Lynn Dawsons website. She makes a great small fixed blade and a kydex pocket sheath to go with it. I paid 175 for the model I wanted with stag scales. I carry it every day and it is comfortable as hell.

I dont have a photo available.

be safe,
Mike

I have a Bud Nealy Pesh Kabz. Bud pattented his multi position carry system One of the options is the inside chest pocket on a jacket. The knife hangs upside down on the pocked. you just reach in and a gentle tug down and you have your knife. I love it. The knife has been in my jacket since I bought it in November. I NEVER leave home without it.

Hey...

Thanks Paul..:)

Another nice thing about it is the mounting plate is large enough, that if you want to change angles,, or swap out another knife,, you can..
This one is just about maxed out in the pack...
