Hi all

I really like the Randall #1 Military model in 6", not just for the looks and handling but also the history behind it. The shape and finish of the blade and handle as well as the metal cap at the end of the handle are all major parts of this knife
The price and delivery time is a bit steep for me though
Are there similar models from other manufacturers that look similar but cheaper and easier to get? They need to be good quality though
Ka-Bar seems to have some close but the handle is too round for my taste

Thank you for your help

BlackJack.

They make Randall, how does one put it..."tributes." "

ha ha ha haaaaaaaaaaaaaaa........................ that cracked me up. But it's true they are very good "facsimiles" of Randalls, right down to the metal. The sheaths, however, are not even close to the Randall's.

A very diplomatic way of putting it, marcinek. They were, last I knew, made by bark river for blackjack. It even says bark river on the back of some of the sheaths. Probably a better way to go than an overseas "tribute" if you're looking to use it. Last I knew they didn't make a 1-6 version though. They make a 1-7.

Goggle Wall Knives and let me know what you think. The Model 19 on his web site is setting on MY dresser.

Delivery time is not a problem you can get most Randalls right now or within a month if you go through a dealer.

Per cost...its a Randall. I've been to the shop, the blade is forged and edge is put on by hand using a stone, I doubt that is done for any $250 Blackjack-Bark River knife.

I believe Coldsteel offers a "homage" to the Randall #1 as well. If I was to go cheap, I'd rather go to Lynn Thompson than Mike Stewart.

As brownshoe said, it is known as a "homage". In the watch world almost every company that has ever made watches has made a watch that was a "homage" to the Rolex submariner.

Sure, you can call it an "homage" too, if you like. Their quality really depends on what you think of a Stewart-made knife. And whether or one chooses to buy one also depends on what one thinks about "homages" in general, like what they think about, say, a Sebenza "homage."

The only well known production "tributes" have always been the Blackjack and the Cold Steel R1. The Cold Steel R1 Military Classic has been discontinued since 2012. Are there any other well known production Randall #1 copies today?

How do the new Blackjacks compare to the originals made in Effingham, IL?

Mark

I own five blackjack fixed blades...with all the arguing about Stewart they are still US made, not along wait time and excellent knife for the price. My Effingham knives are equal to the Michigan made ones. IMO.

I have a Blackjack 1-7. Nice knife if I want a fighting type knife. I generally carry a Blackjack 125 in the woods or a Becker BK-15. I too have a number of Blackjack fixed blades. Like 'em.

I agree that the Bark River leather sheaths for the Blackjacks aren't as nice as Randall's.
