Alternatives to the Benchmade Griptillian?

Honestly I do just like them. Good feel in my hand (I am 6'2"), like the hole over the post opening, like the drop point, like the Axis system over the locks that are in the way of the blade (spacing what that is called), like the half and half blade, and they are about the max of what I can afford to lose (lost two already). So I am probably getting one but I am interested in alternatives in the same price range-ish or cheaper since it is a semi bigger expense right now (but I like them). Fit in my hand which you guys can't really answer, good edge retention, similar blade length, easy one handed opening, and ambidextrous clip and opening are pretty key.

What do you all think, other than if I can't stop losing them, maybe I just should not have nice things

Oh, and hello all!

If you're willing to spend 100 dollars, you can find a new Benchmade Bone Collector. 15020 model is the one with a thumb hole. D2 steel.

Only reservation, IT"S BIG!

For about the same price, Spyderco Manix 2

Ditto.
for the price range of a grip there's also the SPyderco delica (vg 10) Endura (vg10), Native (s30v) and Buck Vantage pro (s30v)

Hello to you, and welcome to BladeForums. It sounds like you have found the knife you like and just need to stop losing it. The Bone Collector is like a nicer Griptilian, so you'd probably like it, but what you need is a knife with Lo Jack installed so you can find it.

Spend a few extra bucks and get you a paramilitary 2 , I can e-mail you a link where you can get a brand new para 2 for 98.00 shipped, but be warned if you buy a para 2 it will become your favorite knife and you won't want to carry anything else.

All the above sugestions are great. I also edc a Grip. In my experience, they are the best bang for my buck. I say get another grip, use it, and don't lose it.

Thanks all. A lot to check out. I live in a smaller market for knives and not willing to shop at one so that leaves two stores. Giving out a map to all the tourists of the best local ab diving? That is going to mean you get less of my business (actually more bluster than actual passion on that, but it sounds like I care rather than just don't like the store that much)

I do like the grip of the griptillian, so maybe the bone collector is another I need to check. I will check the Spydercos but the flat grips makes me veer away a little bit. That being said I have had Spydercos and did really like them.

Lojack my knife? If it was an extra hundred bucks I was would still save money. Of course I would be too paranoid to get it, not that my phone doesn't track everplace I go...

But yeah, I need to stop losing them. The clip is there for a reason. I have had them lost in couches and under car seats using the clip but way less often than just loose in my pocket.

Thanks again for the suggestions and probably will just get another grip but look forward to checking out the others

Send me the link. :)

Lionsteel Daghetta, they're now made in D2 and the lock they have on them seems to function in use much like an Axis lock.

The Spyderco Manix 2 is about the same $ as the Griptillian, has a similar lock system, and a good feel in the hand. The only downside is it's wider than the Griptillian when folded, but it's also a bit thinner so it's a toss-up when it comes to pocket space

I have posted a similar suggestion on another thread but the Spyderco Endura FFG in VG10 is a good offer as well as the Spyderco Manix in florescent blue in BD-1. Both seem to be pretty solid knives. I have neither but I own the Delica FFG and it is a ultra-light slicing machine! Based on the reviews the Manix is killer as well.

Don t forget to check out the Buck Vantage Pro. Similar size and price with better materials. Surprisingly good ergonomics. Better value.

The buck looks nice. I really like the handle on it, and the ambidextrous clip, but I really want the half serrated blade.

The Spydercos all have the flat handles that just don't feel as good in my hand. A number of them have the posts that seem like they might get in the way of cutting some things (tomatoes come to mind), or just one more thing to snag on. Not that I have ever had that happen, but I just like the hole over post

I do like the black blade of the Grip but the better steel of the Bone Collector might get me to cave on that if it feels better in my hand. The price may be the barrier either way, but wants may overcome my sense of responsibility

I did not like the way the bone collector locked up, maybe it was just mine but it did not feel secure. Side by side (I have both) I prefer the delica/endura to the grip.

GriI will check it out. I think the one store that has a good Spyderco selection only has the Grip and the one that has a Bone collector only has a few Spydercos
