alternatives to the Benchmade mini-reflex

I have recently been looking at alot of knives that i would never get for one reason or another. Mostly because i wouldn't actually use them...which is a deal i made with myself. No knives that i will not use for whatever reason. Helps out financially you see. Anyway, i came across the BM mini reflex and i just LOVE the blade on this knife. It is a perfect length for my tastes, it looks nice and thin, and the shape is bang on perfectly what i like.

The deal breaker is that it is an auto, and i cannot legally carry an auto. I would be too caught up being concerned about being found with an illegal knife on me and losing it. Not to mention the actual legal trouble involved.

So..does anyone know of a great alternative to this knife? I know it is a tall order, but i would love an almost exact copy of this knife(at least as far as the blade is concerned), but manual or even assisted opening too i guess. I even considered trying to find someone to rehandle this knife to "manual-ize" it.

Thanks for any information or pointers.

how about the benchmade mini rukus 615 model ? blade is kind of similar in shape, but better blade steel, better finish.cant think of any other knives that are as similar to the reflex.

What are you going to be doing, that you are concerned getting caught?
I carried auto knives in California for many years, no one ever even blinked
their eyes at me for doing so.

Most J6P (sheeple) are pretty uninformed about what an auto is in the first place. Here in Oklahoma City you can pick made-in-china autos up at the corner Shell station for a couple bucks. And yes they are supposed to be illegal here too, no one seems to care. Quite a few people at my last place of employment carried autos.

Just buy the Mini-Reflex and keep a low profile. You do not have to let it flick open every time. Put your index finger on the blade spine before hitting the button when in sensitive company, and let it out slowly.

The mini-reflex is a great knife, no doubt about it. My only regret is getting one as a combo-edge back in the early 90s. Should have gotten plain edge.

I'm going to limit my comments to models I own with the exception of the 705. I have handled one but didn't buy it for some reason I can't remember. Are you wanting to stay with Benchmade?

I like my mini-Reflex and can carry it here in AZ. The only reason it's not in my EDC rotation is because I tweaked the clip. Once I get that fixed I'll continue to use it.

The mini-Rukus is larger than the mini-Reflex which nixes it for me. It's a nice knife but I'm probably going to sell mine because I don't like carrying anything longer than 3".

If it's the blade shape you like then look for a 705. It's a discontinued model but can still be found for sale on the web. It's slightly smaller than the mini-Reflex but the blade shape is very similar.

The 705 has been replaced by the 707 Sequel. Same size as the 705 but a different blade shape. I have one in 154CM and another in D2. I just got the D2 but the 154CM has long been my favorite Benchmade.

Mini-Griptillian a great beater knife. I have one in my EDC rotation and keep a full size Grip as my vehicle knife. While the 707 is, to me, a bit classier, the mini-grip is can be found in a wider variety of colors, blade shapes, and grinds.

FWIW,

Dan

edit to add: Benchmade has an awesom search engine on their site. You can set almost every parameter and see what pops up that you like.

You could void the warranty of the BM Mini Reflex and remove the coil spring. The knife could then be opened and closed manualy.

As an alternative the Kershaw Leek or Blur may tickle your fancy.
You might even like the SOG Flash 1 or 2.

Thanks for the responses so far. I have looked at all the mentioned knives. I am in fact a huge fan of the 707. Aesthetically, the handle of the Rukus turns me off a bit. I don't know, i may just end up getting a mini-reflex and risk it(though i know the chance that i get searched or have to empty my pockets in front of the Police is seriously low).

Aha. I only just remembered the Benchmade NRA Steigerwalt 12400(i think) and it is pretty damn close. BM 440c ain't bad, but i have heard of serious Quality control issues here. Still, surely nothing that can't be tweaked or fixed. Have to try to find one and see what i can do with it. Thanks again, and keep suggestions coming if you have anything i might have missed.
