i like the native because of the following characteristics:

1) pronounced choil (very important)
2) light weight
3) S30V
4) blade shape

what i don't like about it:

1) FRN handle - i'd prefer G10, carbon fiber, or titanium

i'd greatly appreciate any suggestions on what's out there that meets most of the above criteria & is of a similar size to the native. price doesn't matter. thanks very much for your feedback.

Maybe the Spyderco Para-Military?
good possibility, although i haven't handled it, the odd locking mech concerns me as far as ease of use (one-handed).

I was in a local gun/knife store yesterday and I saw what appeared to be a Native with metal handles of some kind. First one I had ever seen like this.
I didn't handle it or get a closer look at it than through the glass of the display case, though.

The compression lock on the Paramilitary is very strong, and as a right hander I found it easy to open and close one handed. I've heard from lefties that it is still pretty easy to close one handed as well.

As for the SS Native I believe the steel is AUS-10.

Scorpius -- the blade is really close to the Native. VG10 steel with SS handle, can't be beat. check out the current reviews and posts for more.
