Anyone have any suggestions for altimeters?

Christmas is coming soon and I need to reciprocate in kind for that thrilling native American flute ensemble CD my wife got me last year. I figure that she could really use a nice altimeter.....

I am looking at the Suuntos and Alta (sports instruments). Want something that has pretty good resolution for backpacking and all the number of runs and total vert for skiing too.
Any experience with these?

Thanks

I haven't heard aboutAlta, but I've only heard good things about Suunto. I don't think you can go wrong with Suunto. I have no experience, but have you looked through their web-site? There's the famous wristop computers as well as at least Escape 203. But you might also want to take a look at Garmin eTrex Summit.

Sorry no experience on these.

Hugo.

I can't say one way or another, but I got got an email from Botach that they have the Suunto Escape 203 on sale and thought you might like to know. I don't know if it is a good price or not. Since they are advertising it, they probably have it in stock so hopefully you won't have problems with your order.
