Hello !
I'm thinking about making my own altoids tin survival kit. I know many people think that such a small kit could be useless... but most of the time I have limited space to carry gear.
I would love to see your altoids kits (pictures) to get ideas.
Thanks

I see the 'tin' kits simply as a way to organize a few essentials, and keep them together as I don't like loose things in my pockets or anywhere else.

ive carreid an altoids can survival kit for 12 years now and yes. they are sooo useful when you need them. a few extra things you might want to consider are:
fishing hooks and line. doesn't take a lot of line to catch a lot of fish, and the line is super strong for god knows what else.
snare wire. nothing like food you dont have to work for.
a few feet of strong cord to help build shelters or god knows what
a good candle... better than anything for starting a fire
a condom or two (non lubricated for god sakes) you can carry a lot of water in a rubber... when you fill it, keep it in a sock to help support the weight.
do yourself a favor and get smaller kit, like a button compass to save space... that knife is awesome, but there are other options.
get real windproof/waterproof matches. they are a world of difference and can mean the difference between fire and shivering yourself to sleep.
just a few things to think about.

Sounds like a plan. This may be an option for me as opposed to having things hanging on neck cord.

I don't normally like to fully disclose my EDC items on the interwebs for various reasons, but in this case I don't see the harm.

Here are the contents of my Altoids Tin:

I made a kit out of a pen/pencil box that I have, it's about the same width and depth of an Altoids tin, but about half again as long.

The tin is wrapped in a length of para-cord, I put several layers of duct tape on both the top and bottom.

I taped a few utility knife blades to the inside of the top. I also taped some hooks and jigs to the inside of the bottom.

The contents are pretty self explanatory. I have three modes of ignition, a photon light, a button compass, a couple lengths of cord and fishing line, a whistle, and some first aid stuff.
