Aluminium vs G-10

I'm wondering...what's the difference, in terms of 'grippiness', between aluminium and G-10 handles? I am curious about this, because I would believe plastic to be more grippy, but then again, I've never felt an aluminium handle either. Is aluminium more slippery, or does it stay in the hand well?

Thanks in advance.

Aluminum is much more slippery than your typical G10 finish, thats why compaines like Microtech and MOD put grippy inserts into their tactial knives with Al handles.

G10 is also not a true plastic it is a composite material of glass fibers and epoxy, i believe it is the same stuff used in circuit boards.

The advatage with Al handles over G10 is that in most cases the Al handles are stiffer, they wont wiggle back and forth, causing locking problems and sometimes the blade to hit the liners. Some manufactures do a better job with stiffing G10 handles with thicker liners, and better back spacers.

Aluminum is pretty slippery.

Smooth G10 is slippery too.

G10 is like Micarta. Micarta is just layers of paper, linen or canvas separated by a substrate.

G10 is layers of carbon fiber separated by a substrate. G10 is very strong relative to its weight.

Generally, makers tend to give the G10 a grippy texture.

Right on with the micarta, it is paper, linen, or canvas soaked in epoxy and compressed into a sheet.

G10 is the same, only with fiberglass, not carbon fiber.

Micarta's Resin Matrix System is not epoxy but phenolic resin.

G-10 is glass cloth and epoxy.

I find that bead blasted aluminum is quite grippy. I also appreciate the stiffness that aluminum gives to a knife hande, which can make for a better lock-up (less flexing of the handle).

I vastly prefer G-10 to aluminum in grip. Aluminum is cold, heavier, always more slippery in the same finsish level. And, I think G-10 looks better.

I just gotta say I love the aluminum handle on my MT Vector the pattern in it really makes it grippy and the shape of the handle just adds to that. I've also never had any probs with my Lum leaf blade slipping although it's smooth. It just depends on what you use it for I think but as mentioned above I prefer the stiffnes of aluminun to G10.
