Anodizing aluminum is a lot more difficult and involved that "anodizing" titanium. It involves sulfuric acid, ice water, electric current, boiling water and dyes.
Removing the color is easy- just soak the item in lye-based oven cleaner.
I've checked with several companies on type 3 hard anodizing (which is what's on Ar15 aluminum parts - very durable) and most of the time for them to coat a set of scales it would fall in their minimum lot charge, which is $120 on up depending on the company.
