Aluminum axe?????

What's up with this aluminum axe head?

Everything else appears normal.

Head reads WOW or MOM and is hung like a normal axe.

WOW stands for Woodmen of the World, a (sort of) fraternal organization that really has more to do with financial planning than it does chopping or splitting wood. I suspect the fact that the axe head is aluminum reflects the fact that this was meant for decoration.

Interesting fact - If you ever visit older cemeteries, you may see their distinctive WOW headstones that are shaped like tree stumps.

There was a store somewhere in SW Michigan that had scads of those aluminum axes, together with pictures of people parading with them and such. I never thought of buying them for the handles.

They would be good for chopping around gas lines. I've seen aluminum and brass tools specifically for that purpose.
