Aluminum coating removal

Any of you guys have any experience stripping off the anodized coating of an aluminum handle? I'm interesting in taking the coating off my 940. Is there anything that I can soak it in that will do this? Thanks

Be advised that the anodizing is not just a coloring. It is a hardened surface that prevents wear-both outside and in.

My best results have been by bead blasting. I believe there are chemical strippers, but I cannot remember what they are. The guy that makes my aluminum motorcycle parts (rearsets, spools, etc) uses a stripper for when we go to re-do the colors.
