Hello all,

There was a post made before about the title above.

Has anyone fancy having Al handle as they are virtually insect, crack-free , light and perhaps the better finishing as well?

Living in a hot and humid country, i often have to oil my wood handles often and the idea of having light yet durable metal as a handle?

It's not the best idea during winter but heck i wear gloves for my chopping.

Sher used to make one Chitlangi with the Al handle

Anyone up for the idea? ;)

I'd have to agree with Wolf: metal handles - even if it's aluminum, seems like it would present just as many new issues as it would solve. I'd agree that something like G10, CF or Micarta would be ideal if we started getting non-traditional with handle materials. If you're wanting something similar in feel to aluminum though, I'd suggest grivory. It feels practically like aluminum without the downfalls associated to it. All becker knives have handles made of it and I love it on my BK-2 (my favorite, non-HI knife BTW :p)

Oooo - perhaps send Aunty Yangu a set of Becker grivory slabs to have a kukri made up to match them? Not too sure if there would be legal issues with that... I personally don't see how there would be though?

**edit** sorry there - didn't see your edit. Wasn't aware that there had been AL handled khuks in the past...

Killa,

Auntie mentioned that Old Kamis used to make them.
Sanu, Bura, Sher....

No doubt Micarta on ESEE, BUSSE or G10 i felt on ZT 0500 are fantastic but I consider Aluminum handle a lost art.
In fact, the handle for ZT 0500, one of the most versatile folder out there is made of Al.
Handle made using Aluminum looks much like the Museum model, only lighter.

Read through the Grivory slabs but the AL construction will be a solid piece of cast (correct me if i'm wrong here). Brass piece used to be hollow and filled with Laha.
Actually McCurdy & Coldsteel have very good alternative handle but some of the most beautiful yet functional Officer Khukuri are made from Aluminum.
The now Defunct Gurkha House and the fact Khukuri House made them sorta ignited the curiosity in me.

I'm never someone who buy knives for display. The thought that AL will last a lot more longer than wood/bone/horn/ivory (if we are going for staple) and lighter than steel just keep running inside my mind as if i just saw Christina Hendriks in person.

Much to the fact i've been looking out for conventional material - wood (Lignum Vitae on the way, Satisal), bone and antler and none of what I've seen oozes antique look to match a custom i requested from Auntie OTHER than a silverish metal like AL. The blade by itself will be a monster so the light yet durable materials like Al will compliment it.

Regarding the cold weather or even static charges (I used to work for Bosch Powertools and we received complaints about using the tools during winter or close to the sea, rectified by additives on the housing/casing), i believed any form of metal on hand would feel like bare butt on the cold toilet seat followed by a familiar "shock n' shiver".

I would love to have a Micarta or G10 Khuk with a kydex sheath to go with it

Me too. While we are at it, no cho, a good sized guard, lanyard hole and compartment on the sheath to put in my small stone and firestarter.

Don't forget a handful of paracord on as well.:D

how about a pouch big enough for an altoids tin? dunno if that would fit or work but it would be cool.

Guys,

Now we sound more like packing for ESEE survival pack.

I like the Altoid idea but just how big the box is?
