Aluminum Handles- Dalton & MT............

Are the aluminum handles on my Dalton M6 and MT Halo2 black in color throughout, or are they coated? I am wondering if after some wear starts to show, will the color rub off?

Also, is there any way to restore the flat color to the handles where it has been "polished" by the Kydex sheath?

My Dalton Auto Tanto is anodized black. The coating has a few scratches and dings, but I think that just adds to the character of the knife.
 
My dad ran aluminum foundries when I was a kid and I never saw any aluminum colored throughout. Only annodized. By the way, he made some very nice knives out of large power hacksaw blades with aluminum handles cast right on and the peened for texture.
