aluminum mess kits

Hello all...
I just bought an aluminum mess kit from walmart to play around with... and boiled some water on an alcohol stove and both the pot and the lid turned a different color on the inside... is this normal?

Reason I posted it here is because I was going to use it as a survival mess kit (cheap and light to carry :D)
 
Aluminum prob will turn a bit, but I'm not in to aluminum, Id go with stainless steel.
Only reason is people are getting away from aluminum bottles to drink from because if the lining gets all scratched you shouldnt use them anymore. so i dont think I want to boil stuff in aluminum for sure. Just look up medical problems with aluminum.
 
no, not necessarily, just saying there could be long term complications from aluminum like fluoride in drinking water. maybe be overblown, but I just choose to be on the safe side since the weight of my stainless kit is not much different from aluminum.
