Aluminum or G-10 Scales? Griptilian

I was wondering what handle material you all recommend? I am planning on purchasing scales for my Large Griptilian 550 as I am not a fan of the Valox handle. I've narrowed it down between the Allen Putman G-10 honeycomb scales and the Advanced Weapons Technology Aluminum scales. I will be carrying it as my EDC and it won't be seeing too much hard use. Any feedback appreciated!

I have both on mini Grips and both are Kevin Wilkins'.

I will say that I feel the G-10 will be more durable and lighter. (by durable I mean the anodizing on the Aluminum is more likely to show wear over time.)

But I love the feel of Aluminum.

It would be a tough call to narrow down. Maybe try both and you can always sell one if you don't like it?

I like the G10 and micarta at Knivesshipfree. they keep the look of the Grip and they are cheaper

G10 all the way.. aluminum is nice but it chips easy, wears easy and gets cold in the winter up here in VT!! If you wanna try another handle material, maybe look at micarta.

Good points. But I think if it was anodized properly it would hold up better, no? AR-15 lowers and uppers are pretty durable but I don't know what type of anodizing these scales have...

I have Kevin Wilkens Grips on my RitterGrips and the G10 are durable and light but I agree that the feel of the aluminum is just so nice.

This is from their website

"They are available in several different colors and like our chassis they are machined to incredible standards from 6061-T6 aircraft aluminum and are then Mil-Spec Type-III hard coat anodized"

And thanks for the help everyone, still torn between the two lol

I've chipped a handful of AR parts, both 7075 and 6061 (to include receiver rails). Not a big deal on an entire rifle, but if it's something you'll be dropping or bumping/scraping into stuff, you may end up with a beat looking knife. G10 just holds up better for this application in my experience, and not to mention it has a more comfortable grip in most cases.

To muddy the waters a bit more....check out Ryan Roberts stuff also!
Death of All Things....here on the forum.
Great guy and does absolutely gorgeous work in G10, CF and micarta.
I have 2 sets from him and I'm thrilled with his work!!

His work looks great. I've been looking into micarta as well but have heard that material is very smooth. How is the grip compared to g10? I've never held a knife with micarta scales so I have no idea lol
