Ok, this is weirder than Jackknife's stories, but yesterday my wife took my ten year old stepson to see a play at an Abbey (a place where Monks live...). The play was put on by a local Catholic girls school, and one of the girls in the play is the daughter of a friend of ours.

Anyhow, during intermission, they typically serve wine at such functions (ok, so I know you are thinking Catholic schoolgirls + Monks + Church + 10 year olds + Alcohol = ???... but I live in Louisiana, and it is perfectly normal). So, they couldn't find a corkscrew to open the wine with. Ten year old stepson goes out to the car and comes back with a SAK my father gave him two years ago that had... you guessed it - a corkscrew. Saved the day & everyone was impressed he was so resourceful.

Just goes to show that a good pocketknife and a quick head are sometimes all you need to save the day! :D

This is too familiar!. Excellent story by the way. I love hearing about other folks' daily lives and traditions.. Anyway, what I wanted to say was that in all three of my vehicles including my spouse's car we have at least 2-3 knives and there is at least one SAK among them for such occasions. Good thinking by the boy for salvaging the event.. Apparently you have taught him well!

Very cool. I always travel with a SAW to get-to-togethers, bbq's and parties. Often I'm drinking a non-twist off beer and the wife has a bottle of wine. Last night it was Newcastles...

Wow it must be a heck of a saw. You just saw the necks off the bottle or what? Just kidding with you.

Great job by that young fellow! Yep, I've used the corkscrew many a time. I've come to prefer it to the fancy cork lifters in various kitchens. Like all the things on a genuine SAK, it works well. Good job on teaching the boy too.

I had the occasion to pop out my SAK at work today. One of the back mantrap doors wouldn't open on the card reads. This door is one problem after another. Rather than have to walk back to ops for a screwdriver, I popped out the phillips (this one is on the back so the frame acts like a T handle) and took off the end cap to see if the wiring plugs had pulled apart again. Wasn't able to fix it at the door, probably a computer issue (we're s'posed to get new hardware this year), but at least I was able to check off one potential problem.

You mean you're NOT supposed to just break the neck off the bottle and strain it through your teeth?
