I carried a number of knives on outdoortrips, from SAKs to a custom made WSK, from cheap ones to expensive ones. I always end up holding the Fällkniven A1 in my hands and say to myself: That´s still the best one for me.
I think I bought it about 7 or 8 years ago, it is one of the massive VG-10 knives, not the laminated steel.
I love the blade, the steel and especially the handle. Never felt more comfortable with any other handle. I actually thought about buying no more knives because:eek: I always compare them to the A1, ending up not using the new ones.
There´s probably only one more I need to buy: the F1.
BTW, my wife carries a S1 almost everywhere she goes.

Nice to have one you tested and truly like. Having a fav to compare to helps with the fun of acquiring and evaluating new ones. I do the same thing.
I hear good things about the F1.

Well, you have yourself a most pleasant problem! :) I like the A1 as well, but I do prefer the smaller F1 and S1 models. Fällkniven makes just my kind of knives: durable, practical, and not too expensive.

That's the goal with gear-- find what works and replace it when it doesn't. Past that, it gets to be collecting-- nothing wrong with that, but sooner or later you have to put the catalog and mouse down and go campin' :)

Excellent saying Dale, you can get lost in all the gear you have. I know i can and when it finally does come time to go camping I got WAY to many toys to choose from in all depts. Nice thing is it gives me an excuse to go on more trips and try more gear:D

I could say the same thing for my Spyderco Endura 3. I don't think it's the best knife but just the best knife for me. It's the one that I'm most accustomed to using so it's the one I'm most comfortable with. That's the reason why I always go with it. That is probably the same reason why you always go back to your Falkniven.

It's always fun getting and testing new knives, but sometimes you come back to the ones that you just love. They're like old friends.

I say the same about my dozier kabar folding hunter. I don't really have many knives, but that little, , sharp as heck, knife always impresses me for money. That's probably why I have 2 now :) I love the blade shape, seems to work out for me. It is also the one I am most used to.

I always find myself reaching for my Rat 3 and recently, my #760 Mora.

It's still nice to have twenty other knives to choose from though ;)

I think after years of using knives, one kind of settles on a particular style.

But that is post Buck 110 era, the golden age of knifemaking.

I can't imagine not having a Spyderco Endura or Delica on me. Even when I buy or become fascinated with a new design. I always end up with one of those in my pockets.

As far as fixed blades go, I have had a CS master Hunter and before that a SRK for at least 17 years or so. Only now, I think I might be changing slightly. I am loving my CRKT ABC. It's a tanto  Change! We'll see.

I have my sights set on either a Rat 5, a Fallkniven or a Bark river. They are all similar to a CS master hunter in style.

I find myself going with a S.A.K. alot more often, but I just got a new 780 mora and a OHT to test this week on a camping trip. Of course my old and always reliable S.A.K. will be with me along with the new toys. That's if I can get the OHT out of my wife's hands this trip. She really likes it alot.
