Am I being picky? Should I send it in?

I recently purchased a Viele PE.

It's a great knife. Perfect for office carry. So far, I've carried it the last two days.

However, my particular Viele has a few problems, right out of the box. (I bought it new, btw)

Lockup is tight, no bladeplay, and it came very sharp. Function wise, it's perfect.

Unfortunately, the non-clip side micarta is less than perfect. Where the sharp point of micarta goes to meet the scales towards the blade is a sharp point that sticks out, and it's driving me crazy. Makes it hard to grip.

Secondly, the curve in the micarta where the liner is supposed to be released looks like I took it apart, and reglued it with superglue while drunk. Very sloppy, and has an annoying texture. The screws that hold the micarta to the liner stick out, and are very sharp.

Finaly, the blade itself has a couple problems. The grind that rounds out the knife while closed towards the pivot pin, which is supposed to be square shaped, is trapezoidal. And, finally, there is a small chip out of the back of the blade, at a right angle to the part that meets the liner.

If I keep the knife the way it is, I know it'll end up in drawer, unused. I'm considering sending it to Spyderco under warranty. My fear is that:
1. I'm being overly picky - the knife functions fine
2. There's nothing Spyderco can do for it - its discontinued

Should I send it in? Or am I being too picky? This is the 12th spyderco I've owned, and its the first one I've ever had problems with.

Thanks!

Definitely send it in, Rob. This is an expensive knife in the Spyderco line, and the defects you mentioned are not trivial. You're not being picky. Don't feel bad about it - they'd much rather eat a few bucks by giving you a new knife than have you buy a $120+ knife that sits in a drawer. After all...you have 12 of their knives! They *want* to keep you happy, and they want you to send this knife back.

You might have to accept another knife in their line of comparable value, however, because this knife is out of production.

Johnny

P.S. I would say the same thing--send it in for a replacement--even if this was a $50 SMKW closeout Viele.

One problem though might be that you dissasembled your knife and super glued it back together which would definately void your warranty.

Uhh.. I didn't actually take my knife apart, and superglue it back together. It came looking that way, new, out of the box. Thanks for the help, though. :)

Well, I'll have to think about it. I really like the knife. Its just not up to par quality wise. Guess I'll carry the favorite wegner or delica for a while.

Send it in. You won't be happy with it otherwise....Trust me, I KNOW.:).

The one that I recieved was flawless, yours should be the same. Send that sucker in.

I have three Vieles and each of them were perfect. Without question you should send it in. You're not being too picky.

Where did you get it from? Sounds like you got one somebody else returned to a dealer.
