I guess I need some advice because I just can't make up my mind. so i've had this crazy idea for a bit about a Becker folder. I can't wait for mr. Becker to make me one, so i've drawn up some plans to turn the necker into a folder. Essentially, my idea is to cut it(the reason I can't decide... no going back after I cut it) and build a liner lock handle out of titanium for it, of course make the handle traditional Becker shaped, make some wood scales and probably put a small thumb post on the blade for easy opening. I love neck knives for hunting or hiking but I prefer to carry a folder on me when a larger knife is inappropriate/unnecessary. That would be one mean folding blade too... what do you think? The risk is somewhat high, however I do have faith in my fabrication abilities and the benefit of having a Becker blade as a folder... hmmmm

If you have enough skill to make a Titanium liner lock handle, you should be able to make this knife. Give it a shot ! Be a VERY cool project.

PICS !!!! PICS !!!

It would be crazy NOT to do it! What are you waiting for? I think you should make a BK2 folder, imagine how that would feel in your pants!

You're on BladeForums. Chances are you're clinically insane. It's ok, we all are.

Seriously, if I liked folders and had the means to do it, I would. But since I do neither, I will refrain from it and just say "Go for it"

But don't forget Rule #1. POST PICTURES.

take care

yes, you're crazy. make at least 2 :) one for me... one for ethan :> oh wait, you wanted one? dang. make three :)

yeah you're nuts and bolts :D

go for it !!!! I for one HATE thumb studs though... but I still have knives with them so they're not a complete deal breaker...

Haha... yeah not a large fan of thumb studs either but for me the essence of a folding knife is all about ease of use... particularly with one hand. That's why im going liner lock over lockback. Bladite if it turns out alright I'd be more than happy to make one for you and ethan. Ha... if ethan were carrying one of 'my' knives around(that's automatic beckerhead status right)... and yeah... a bk2 folder would be awesome... but im going to start with the 11.

Thanks for the words of encouragement. Im gonna gather up all the materials and hopefully I can get some pics up here as it starts to take shape.

Pictures are gonna be a must!!!!!!

I really want to make one also but I don't know how to even start. Pictures of the process please!!!!

as much crap as the DPX Hest took when it came out a while back, it looked very much like the fixed blade dpx made before that.

I really see a 1/3 size BK2 folder would look good

or even something size of a BK11 when opened...

glad I didn't jump in on the LE hest lets just say that much... for me though even a folder the size of the bk11 is way to big, I'm sure its a great size for many just not for me.. however I will say my 3 favorite folders of all time is Delica, CF Sage 1, Vantage Pro, and to add the unspoken fourth the kershaw skyline.. okay, okay to add a 5th, Caly 3 and soon.............Chaparral :D

and, and for higher end folders................. ahhh never mind........

not at all. the eskabar came about because propthepolecat wanted to tinker. never know your tinkering might lead to another becker product one day!

I seem to recall a few months ago a guy posted some CAM drawings of a folding Becker 2 type monster. Looked great. Do a search, I'm sure it will pop up.

Yeah I found that thread. Good looking design he came up with. Mine'll be a little different and a lot smaller. A bk2 folder would be awesome, but for a blade that size I definitely think fixed blade is the only way to go. We'll see... tho... if this turns out well it would be interesting to attempt it with a 2.
