Am I doing something wrong with the O1?

To start this off- HOORAY! My O1 arrived about an hour ago and I immediatly started forging. I got it to a dull orange and started hammering away at about the same speed as I do iron (which isn't overly hard- it moves pretty well), and it's not doing as much moving...

Also, while I'm here: when working with the flat stock, my wolf jaw tongs aren't gripping, neither are the channel locks. Am I doing something wrong here or do I need to forge the tongs flat? This may be the reason for the other problem.

note: this is my first time working real, high carbon steel
Thanks.

High carbon tool steel doesn't move under the hammer as easy as iron or mild steel. I use about 6 different tongs while forging a blade, so you may want to make or buy some more. Your not doing anything wrong, you just need to get used to forging tool steel.

Not sure of the names, but I have tongs for square stock, a pair for each 1/4'',1/2'',3/4'' and 1'', also works on round. I also have tongs for flat stock that have tabs on one jaw that hold the bar straight in 1'',1-1/4'' and 1-1/2'' I have a few that I've modified too. Tongs that hold the work piece firm make the job much more pleasant. Hope this helps.

Thanks, it helps allot. I've been meaning to weld myself up a few pairs but haven't had the time- I'll keep those in mind while I'm making em.
