Carbon fiber and S90V are very high-end variables. The standard Bodacious is not that expensive.

EDIT: "Standard" meaning G10 and S30V.
True. Aside from the cost of the alloy, S90V wears the milling heads much faster than other alloys such as S30V. That means more frequent replacement of the heads, which makes the blade more expensive to produce. And the Bodatious requires a lot of milling because of the length and width of the blade. That exacerbates the issue.

My CF/S90V Millie cost $225 from KW back in 2017. With everything increasing in price over the years, that price tag seems about right. They’ll go for $250-$300 in the secondary market. I’d pay secondary prices for that knife, especially since I love S90V, and Spyderco’s CF is perfectly executed.

Oh you are preaching to the choir. I plan to own every offering from spyderco in s90v and CF.

The up and coming Spyderco Chaparral Lockback Red Dark Matter Fatcarbon is $193 more than the FRN model simply for the different scales and nothing else. Yeah I want but did raise an eyebrow at the exorbitant price difference. I’m sure it is going to be a pretty folding knife and am supremely happy with the overall build and action in general but still wondering why these are so much more expensive. I’m sure someone here can educate me and this seems like the perfect thread to ask this question.

To explain the manufacturing differences between FRN and G10 handle scales:

FRN is molded. Making the dies for them is costly, but they can be used for a long time.

G10 has to be cut and machined.

The more a handle scale has holes, slots or contours adds much more to the machining process.
