Am I missing something here?

Maybe the winner had a very specific reason for a NIB '95 date coded knife, for a present for Fathers Day, or some other personal reason, and didn't care the cost???

That is interesting reading. Not only for the info, but also for how "catty" some of the subforums are-glad we arent like that......much:)

But even if it is a reworked or misleading add, the question remains..why would anyone pay that much for a run of the mill 112?

Sitflyer, that thought came in to my mind as well, could be a birth year, anniversery, graduation, military service begin or end...etc. It would still be a hell of a lot, gotta be 3 times its value. Plus, more than one person was bidding way way above normal.

Casey, agreed it is a nice sheath, but not terribly rare.

Anyway, I am getting a little off my motive. I was more making sure that I wasnt missing something, than exploring into the mind of some mad man willing to buy at any price or village idiot who was thinking he was getting some extremely rare "pearl of great price".

The reason I thought as I did is the winner really only placed two bids, the first one was higher than needed, for whatever reason( and I don't see anything special about the Knife in question) he really wanted THAT knife:confused:

Could be........remember it's the winner AND the guy who comes in second who must be willing to bid crazy.

So......two guys with a reason. That thickens the plot here......not one, but two "personal reason" guys or really smart collectors who know something special about this knife

:)

Is that even the right sheath for the knife?

Wouldn't that go with a finger groove knife?

So maybe the winner was a shill bid gone wrong and the seller ended up with his own knife.

Seems like the only way to know is if that knife gets listed again by the same seller.......and people who use shill bidders rarely put one back on right away.

Well if you click on the winning bidder you will see they have only bid on 2 in the knife category and 4 bids in small kitchen appliances in the last 30 days. So if they were this persons shill, they don't show it. But the "losing" bidder might be, 27 bids on knives in 30 days. Hard to tell now that they hide the bidder names.

True, but the best shill is one who doesn't show it.......and could have been used by the wife in small kitchen appliances to build up some feedback to look legit.

As you say, very hard to tell.

The winner does have 22% of all bids with this seller, while the loser has only 7%.

If the winner posts feedback, that will open him up for information access from there.

Re: Sithus and BG42...I never knew that info was available before...THANX! Ya learn something everyday :)

I missed this before and this link has another link on the thread where this guy is further discussed. Unless he has changed his ways, it looks very bad. His good feedback shows that a lot of people don't know much about knives and many are reluctant to rock the boat and file a complaint.

Yes........beware.
