Am I missing something, or is my knife?

First off, a Kershaw Junkyard Dog with a perfectly good framelock and a perfectly good ball detent:

And now, a Kershaw OD1:

Is it just me, or is a major component of the ball detent missing? I was wondering why there is almost no blade retention.

You should be able to see the hole on the backside of the lock. If you can see all the way thru, then you've got a problem. My orange OD-1 doesn't have as distinctive catches during the opening and closing cycle as my black one, but both have the ball.

Well, as you can see, that hole goes all the way through. Also, there's no catches during opening/closing, so I figured it was just a weak detent until I actually took a look. I guess it's time to send it off to Kershaw.

The only detent action I feel on my orange one is right before the lock moves in to place. If you can see thru the hole, then its definitely missing the little ball. Contact Kershaw CS, they'll take care of you. Or you could try returning it to where you bought it for an exchange.

That's funny. My orange OD-1 has a stronger detent than any of the three black ones I've handled. I really like it.

Made on Friday... Dropped the ball... LOL, knife humor at it's best.

Kershaw will definitely help you out as I've heard nothing but good
things from their warranty/service department.
