Am I missing something?

I just bought a used small sebenza insingo on the forum. Love the thing!

I decided that I wanted to take it apart and give it a cleaning and lube since I'm not sure when the last time it was done.

I've watched video after video and it seemed easy enough.

I took it apart, cleaned, lubed and put back.

Now the blade won't center and there is a rattle towards the bottom of the blade. It's also really tight to operate. Not as smooth as it was.

Am I missing something here?

For sure you're missing something. I'm not mechanical but have had them apart and back together dozens of times just using these instructions: http://chrisreeve.com/Sebenza-Assembly
Simply screw everything down tight without the blade in place, put washers with grease on either side of the blade, and slide it in until the hole in the blade lines up with those in the scales. You will need to hold the lock bar to the side to get the holes to line up. Then insert the pivot bushing and screw tight. Flick one time to re-seat, and it should be good.
Keep at it, a few tries and it'll be second nature, I promise.

Sounds like you may have a pinched washer. Try reassembly again. Everything has to go back just right or it won't work. It took me some time to learn the right technique.

Could be a pinched washer, and i would definitely disassemble the knife again and especially check the inner edges of both washers.
I get quite a lot of Sebenza's in for sharpening & some tlc, and i took some pics to show how i assemble them again after cleaning & lubing.
Maybe they can be of help.

Is there any difference in size between all the bushings and screws? Maybe I used the one from the back spacer for the pivot???

With all due respect, unless I've misinterpreted your pictures, you are doing it incorrectly and this method is what usually leads to a pinched washer. The handle scales are supposed to be assembled first and then the blade, pivot bushing, and washers are slid into the handle all at once prior to inserting the pivot.

OP: Don't do that^ It probably works for kwackster because they are cautious but it is not how CRK recommends.

In addition to what others, much smarter than me, did you remove the lanyard? That could cause the lanyard retention stud to rattle around too.

Zeta33 is correct; Kwackster's method is not the CRK recommended procedure. I am not a big tinkerer, but I've used the CRK procedure many times w/o any problems. Just go slow and easy and pay attention. Read the instructions all the way through and then read each step as you do it.

It didn't have a lanyard in it. But the lanyard pin is assembled in the knife. Once I get more oil,I'm going to take the blade out again, re clean it and assemble it again using the crk method. Making sure the handle scales are tight.

Coolio, After you get it assembled correctly, IF you still hear that noise, just pinch the pin with your fingers and see if that resolves your issue. Good luck!

Also check that you have the washers on the correct side. The small one goes on the lock side.. Good luck

I receive quite a few Sebenza's from owners who followed the CRK recommended sliding method and still got pinched washers.
This "sandwich method" allows me to both see and feel if the washers are placed correctly around the bushing and not partly under it when assembling.
Been doing it this way for many years, but anyone should of course use their own judging.

Whichever way you re assemble the knife is fine, it's done both ways. Just make sure you haven't mixed up the pivot bushing with the blade stop bushing. They are similar in size.
I've bought two used Sebenza's that were re assembled with the bushings crossed.

BINGO! I took everything apart and re cleaned. I put the handle back together and tightened everything down. Then re lubed and assembled the blade.

Slid the blade back in and everything is like butter again. I think I may have had the bushings mixed up and with the right one in it was back to crk smooth.

Thanks for the help brothers!

This. I have done it both ways and the sandwich way when done carefully and deliberately seems more gentle than trying to wedge parts in when you reassemble the slabs first then slide the blade in.

To each his own.

Great! After a few times, you will be able to assemble that thing in a few minutes.

First time I tried reassembling a crk (an umnum) the blade was way off center.
Took it all apart and tried again and it was perfect.. I've had good luck ever since then with various sebenzas and such.
