Is it me or the uglier a knife is and the more imperfections a custom knife seems to have, the more it seems to sell? I have seen blades that have the ugliest grinds and just flat out uneven sell for more money than something someone took hours upon hours to hand polish and etc etc? Can someone explain this to me? If it's too perfect, do people think it's almost machine made and aren't willing to pay the higher dollar amounts? Someone please clue me in!

Could be, seems to sell all the stuff at World Market/Cost Plus stores.

“glass dishes with tiny bubbles and imperfections, proof that they were crafted by the honest, simple, hard-working, indigenous peoples of… wherever.”

Are you talking about at the same Price point? If not my perspective is this, I am not a collector I am a user, my limit is usually around the $200 mark. While that highly polished stag handed knife may be look sweet I am not going to spend $400+ on it when I can get a similar satin finished knife in G10 or micarta for $175

I assure you that NONE of my customs fall into this catagory!! Not one!! I don't know what CUSTOM knives YOU are looking at.
I own a knife or knives from the following makers:
Matt Cucchiara
Tom Mayo
Patrick Nihiser
Tom Krein
Rick Hinderer
Brad Duncan
Kevin Wilkins.

I just mean some Japanese influenced style blades that seem BUTT ugly and people paying $150-200+ bucks for it when pretty much a 10 year old could make it :)

Not sure which knives you are talking about, but I certainly won't pay more for a POS than one that is well made.

Leu, if you were to give some examples of the knives you're discussing we could have a better (and more interesting) exchange of opinions.

Some knives are so ugly, they ought to come with barf bags. I believe it's the more beautiful knives that sell, or the best crafted knives. Buck has quite a following for its knives, which commonly come made from 420 HC stainless. Even steel snobs love their knives, though I personally don't much care for them.

One of the ugliest knives, in my opinion, is this one, the CRKT M60 Desert. But like women, there's no accounting for taste.

I don't want to name any knifemakers, but some of the knives, i've seen under the search of TANTO under for sale fixed blades would give you an idea. Bad and uneven cord wraps, etc.
