Don't answer until I've asked the question!:p

I've mentioned before that as a culinary instructor I like to have custom made "showy" kitchen knives. I've found a source for legal pre-ban narwhal tusks. I'm thinking I want a deba style knife made with a 6" narwhal tusk handle (@ $150 PER INCH). That would be a great knife! Or is that just too far over the top?

I don't think its visual appeal and decadent nature would be apparent at first glance. A fluted handle of custom-made micarta (find someone who makes the stuff and collaborate to create a unique pattern - Mark Nelson, Butch Harner, and Shadetree Phenolics all come to mind) could be more eye-catching without making people wonder if you have a gorilla leather coat at home or routinely lash children together to form lawn furniture. Just sayin'.

i've been a fan of his kitchen knives for a while now but i haven't brought myself to buy one, yet. maybe one day.
