Am I overreacting?

OK - tell me if you think I'm overreacting here. Last night, I was out with Judy and a bunch of our friends. We went out after a concert put on by Judy's students, had Korean food, drinks, the works. A GREAT time was had by all. We got into the car to go home (not mine, luckily - you'll see why soon), and started off. We were in Boston's Chinatown, and the roads are narrow, with parking on both sides. So, we're going through a light when a black Honda on our passenger side stops in the middle of the road, and the driver's side front and rear doors open. There was a woman driving, and a guy in the back - they were switching positions for some reason. Anyway, the woman (from now on bitch in question, or BIQ) opens her door into the car I'm in - a quick note: the car I'm in is literally two days old. BRAND new. Obviously, the driver of our car freaks, and starts giving the BIQ the business. The guy in the Honda (now the Ass.hole in Question, or AIQ), KNOWING the BIQ opened the door into our car, does it AGAIN! So, the driver of my car FLIPS, and starts tearing the AIQ a new hole - but she (smartly) doesn't get out of the car to do it. The AIQ ignores us, gets into his car, and then purposly starts driving an inch or two off of our passenger side saying "3 times the charm" out the window to us, while the BIQ in the back, and her friend, BIQ2, start throwing us the finger! So, the 4 of us in the car, good time now ruined, are fuming. Didn't do me any good to see AIQ's buddy in the passenger seat throw a double bird to a cop who was taking a turn in front of them (don't know if he was trying to be "tough" for the BIQs in the back, or if he really meant it). So, anyway, I'm still pissed this morning. It's not even my car (thank God - I'd be in jail today if it was). Do you guys think I'm overreacting? It just blows me away the sheer BALLS of these people - no apology, no remorse. The REVELLED in the fact they did damage to our car. And then had the GALL to continue to taunt us, because they knew we wouldn't do anything about it (I was SO tempted, but I figured if I started throwing sh!t back, the car I was in might get harmed MORE - I don't need that kind of guilt, ya know?) And, the fact they were flipping off a cop tells me they had no respect for the law anyway, so if something DID start, it might escalate to really ugly pretty quickly. I dunno - it just really yanks my chain, you know? Especially since I just sat there and let it happen. Like I said, I'm glad it wasn't MY car. I don't think I would have started a fight, though. I would have just followed them until they parked, waited until they exited the car and went were they were going, then I'd flatten all 4 of their tires, and carve "3 times the charm, fu.cker" into the driver's side door. But that's me. I gotta tell ya, I was fantasizing about popping a few 9mms into their rear window as they drove down the street - not to injure, but just to let them know they weren't immune. I'd have loved to see those corn-rowed BIQs pissing their panties as the glass imploded. Like I said - pure fantasy, but strangely satisfying.

So, like I was saying - am i overreacting? Should I just let it go? What do you think?

Man, that sucks

You showed extraodinary restraint IMO.
Sad that in this environment of everybody sue everbody else that it's a huge risk to your livelihood etc. to protect your honor (in the way one would want to ... on the spot)

"I love all God's children, even the stupid ones"

Sounds like a "Criminal Mischief with suspects" if you got their tag number. Make a call. (But in reality, it's not going to do much good even if you did. Just make you feel better about the situation)

Sad part is, I'd lay money it's not one of those low life's car in the first place.

If you did get a liscence # and it is their car, hit 'em where it hurts, have the owner of the vehicle you were in file a claim with their (the A&B's IQ) insurance co., and take heart in the fact that thhey will be paying for years to come.

See2, I'm with ya on this one man. Quietly tag along wherever they are headed. Wait til the car gets lonely. Carve message in as many body panels as time and prudence permits  . Not the smartest or most legal thing to do, but it suuuuure is satisfying :D .

Chris:

I can appreciate your anger, but I think you made the right call on this one. Remember , its just property and it isn't worth anyone getting hurt (or worse). Too often, I see a lot of people end up in the hospital over Bullsh*t like a heated exchange of words or the destruction of property.

That's not to say I wouldn't kick someone's a$$ if he were about to harm me or someone I care for, but in this case, based on you circumstances you did the right thing and everyone got home safely.

I agree 100% with what RAYE said! So it was hardly worth me posting this message really.. ha! ;)

Nothing worse than some idiot showing you their "best" on the road. I commute 60 miles a day...I see my fair share.

My father use to chase down people that did stuff like that. He isn't/wasn't a violent man. Not even super big, just 6'...but he'd get upset and get the tag numbers (over even addresses if they were stoopid enough to drive home with some weirdo following them) and then report them. Actually, we were just talking about this a couple days ago....

The best one was when he chased down a car with two guys in it, who he'd seen back full on into a parked car in a grocery store...then speed off. He got their tags and then went back and left a note on the car. He got a call later that day, a very greatful lady...turns out the two guys were priests who "didn't even know they hit the car" LOL.

Anyhow, I try not to get upset at idiots on the road, even if they are begging for it. Getting mad, losing control and hurting someone isn't worth it. It makes no sense. Even if it was a new car, even if it was YOUR new car...its just a car. Get the tags, follow them to see where they go (within reason) and then report it to the police and to your insurance...and "Hit and Run" are the magic words.

My 2 cents,
Ted

Chris,

I feel for you. I know exactly how you feel. I just picked up 2002 BMW. Brand spanking new. I mean it just left the factory in Germany a few months ago. I park that car a mile away if i have to just so that I don't get a ding in it. You can always spot in the mall parking lots. It's by itself. Preferably next to a pole so that I don't have someone to one side. :)

My wife's truck got a ding on the door the first week after we picked it up. My little VW is almost 5 years old. I had a guy drop a Harley on the bumper the first month that I had it. I had less then 500 miles on it. Either I have really lousy luck with cars or there are alot of inconsiderate people out there.

Chris, you have every right to get pissed. I know I would. But don't hold on to it or this kind of stuff will just eat you up.

David

Thanks for the replies, guys. I'm a LOT cooler now, but it still pisses me off... anyway, we DID get the tag (they were from Rhode Island - home of sucky drivers, so why am I surprised?), and I guess the woman who owned the car is going to call the cops, and see if the dealership can buff out the scratches (no dings in the door, luckily - just paint damage). ::sigh:: It's at times like this I hope karma exists.

Hot wounld not come close to what I'd have been.I would have got the plate number had one of my buddies run it.Then two things would have happened. One he would find himself getting a lot of tickets all the sudden and two, well lets say bad things happen to bad people.;)

Overreact? NAH! Over reacting would have put you in jail and them in the hospital. Not saying I wouldn't do that myself. If that were my car that they damaged, I would have made close, personal contact with them!

I would've been furious as well, but as others have been saying, it's best that you just got the tags and let 'em go without some real serious **** possibly starting...Arseholes.

See2,
You have every right to be mad, they were just plain rude.
I found a bumpersticker for you, it says "Honk if you have never seen an Uzi fired from a car window.":D

Let me find a pic of it.
Meantime, just relax and don't let these type of people bother you and ruin what sounded like an awesome evening otherwise,
Reed

Not that I would do or imply that Anyone else should do,but this sure looks like an opertune time to test Cold Steels Tanto thru the car door trick to Me !

totally agree w/ya i woulda flipped but be carefull about keying cars - in tx if ya do it on the persons property at night, believe it or not, they are legally justified in using deadly force on you..

dont believe me? check out the texas penal code, ya are justified in using force if the offense occurrs between dusk/dawn, and one of the things mentioned is criminal mischeif

dont have a clue about other states have heard its a texas thing, but beware!!

Thats why us folks in NH, call some of your folks from MA. "Ma$$holes". Sadly, you met a pair of true, hard-core Ma$$wholeS, from this point on just MAH. You showed great restraint, and unless you had a firearm, you did the right thing by preventing this from escalating. IMO however, I do not know if I could hold it in if someone did that to my new buggy, especially if they are/were MA$$HOLES.....wolf
