Am I seeing INFI dimples?

hmmmm... maybe from the coating? I dunno it's hard to tell from the pic. I see were your going with this. It was my understanding only a few Steel Heart II with slotted fastners were made with INFI (last run) before going to the hollow tube fasteners. Ya think you got one of the few eh? Good god wouldn't that be cool!

There are several slotted bolt INFI Straight SteelHearts,,,Possibly many.

I have one of the first sent to me from the Factory Oct 17 1999, I sent it back to the Factory at a latter date for Jerry to determine steel type, he listed it as INFI.

Just send it back to factory Jerry will tell you which it is.

Thanks for the confirmation Papa... wasn't positive. Had remembered reading something about it over on the exchange.

Really like the Steel Heart II with the slotted fasteners. Would like to get one in INFI if I could but would be willing to go with an A2 steel version. I'd even take the hollow tube fastener version that INFI. Will York had one that had a DC finish for sale just recently. Wish I'd had the cash, would have bought it in a heartbeat. Flippin beautiful! That's how it goes though... got the cash and nothing is available and when I don't have the cash they start coming out of the woodwork! :grumpy: Seems to me that some of the Steel Heart II have different blade lengths... you know if this is true?

Solstice, don't worry about it, SHII with tube fasteners are a lot more common. Heck, you could probably find one within a couple days if you posted in the WTB section. Good Luck.

Pretty easy to find 1/2" difference in overall length in straight handled Steel Hearts, I have seen as much as an inch (I think) over all length difference.

You might find posts about this with pictures if you get some one with the posts archived,,,post was by Tallpaul Tall Paul,,,or some such and was prolly 4 years ago,,I have had 3 different over all length Steel heart II's at a time,,
I got pictures somewhere,,,Remember I am talking about over all length not just blade length.

I am going to be SO happy if it turns out to be INFI!!!!!
But if it's A2, I am still going to be So HAPPY!!!!
Does anyone happen to have an idea of approx. what percentage of these were made w/ INFI? Just wondering. Thanks.

Thanks for the info guys. Goodluck Walking Man! I got my fingers crossed for ya bro!

As soon as the funds gather up I think that a Steel Heart II is going to be my next purchase.

I have a smooth bolt SH with the INFI dimples, 5/16" to boot.

Have had more than a few slotted bolt INFI SHSH's. Not that uncommon. One just went west recently.

Lot's of difference in ALL dimensions. I haven't had 2 that are really close. Well, close enough where I couldn't tell the diff from a couple of feet away.

That's what makes this time frame/change over period so interesting. And, if it's A2? So? Ask Dwayne about an A2 fatty SHSH II he got from me as a user. He said something about being able to get it sharper than INFI and works fine for whatever it is he chops on down there. LOL

The only 2 straight handles I've even seen REALLY close to each other is a pair of SHBA's, 1 of which I just recently got. Both are smooth bolt, have the INFI dimples and appear to be from the same bar stock (within .001 of each other) and done by the same grinder. I got this as a backup (in case of loss), of my EDC, but have NEVER seen ANY 2 straight handled anythings this close to identical. Even the ~~~ asym grind is the same. Ever seen 2 asym grinds the same before CNC?

Wait!... What am I saying? My meds wore off! NOTHING made without the hollow tube fasteners is worthy of anything except quick disposal at low prices. That's it! Just dispose of them towards me and I'll make sure they get into the needy hands of (not S FL Hogs), islanders that have soft stuff to cut after the numerous (not hurricanes), big rain storms. E/M me for shipping details.

Doing what I can.

Rob

The A2 had dimpling as well but not to the extent that the INFI does. That dimpling doesn't look concentrated enough. But you never really know.
