Dear fellow forumites,

I'd like your opinion on these two blades. Are these two blades in mint condition, and if not, can you point out what is wrong.

Both are Chris Reeve Small Sebenzas. One is a classic(blue lug), while the other is a 21(double thumb-lug). Would hate to jump to conclusions, so please enlighten me.

I am NO expert on CRK or grinds or anything for that matter, but the one on the top looks like the tip has been bent or chipped. There is an obvious difference in the grinds too. Did you purchase both straight from a dealer or CRK?

They could both be "mint" as in new from the factory but one of them sure has messed up bevels and a bent tip!

Yeah, the top one looks like it's been sharpened. The way the bevel progressively "widens" toward the tip (i.e., more metal has been removed) is consistent with the use of an at-home sharpening system that holds the sharpening angle constant (e.g., Edge Pro, Lansky) but not very common on factory edges.

The bottom knife MAY have a factory edge, it may be well dulled. Both have lots of wear on the thumbstuds, they are NOT mint.

The top knife appears to have some fair tip damage as well as quite a bit of edge sharpened off. That last pick looks bad, not sure what it is, but it looks broken.

'm tired, but concur. The bottom knife may just have dirty, silver thumbstud that doesn't appear mint however.

Neither look mint. One much more obvious than the other. If someone sold/traded this to you as mint they need to be called out. So ridiculous.

Well the partial story is i did buy one straight from CRK, so i have no qualms about that one. The other though was sold to me, and was stated as the blade being "mint", "never used". It was stated that it was carried and there were signs of it on the handles, which the pictures clearly showed, but when i opened the box today, the tip really stuck out like a sore thumb as well as the blade.

I'm fairly new to chris reeves, but not to the condition of knives. I already messaged the seller in regards to this and hopefully we can come to a happy conclusion. While i know i wasn't picking up something pristine, the condition of the blade and the description are far from coinciding.

I don't want to call out the seller, since we haven't actually spoken, and this could get worked out.

Curious as to why my thread was moved here, i was actually wanting to see others opinions on this rather than just CRK people(nothing against you guys <3 ).

As a professional knife sharpener, it's not factory. I promise that. Is it "mint"? That depends on how you define “mint”. Looks like a rookie on a belt sander got a-hold of this one.

Theres quite a bit of wear on that thumbstud for being mint. In my experience - it takes some time for the blue to wear to that point.

No doubt someone sharpened that edge (non CRK folk).

How long do you all think i should wait to say something more? i've seen the person come online multiple times, andi haven't gotten a response back. Am i over-reacting to the claims of a -mint/never used- blade?

2-emails, and i've seen at least 3 different times they've signed on

the thumbstud i can understand cause it was already stated that it has been carried. The knife as a whole isn't mint, but the -blade- was said to be never used and mint.

You probably did, but did you contact the seller via PM and email both?

i did overreact? the tip was very noticeable upon opening and the blade(while i'm definitely no expert) is also noticeable. Yes i sent 2 emails. And before the seller was -very- prompt at replying back T.T

I would probably give them a day or two to respond to your concerns. If there is no response, then in essence...I believe that you have all the answers that you will get. There is a place for that here, but it's not in this particular subforum. Of course, this is my opinion alone. Good luck to you! Oh yeah...Sharpened, carried and definitely not my definition of "mint"

You are not overreacting if the seller clearly stated the blue lug Sebenza as mint/unused blade. A gorilla sharpened that seb and he needs to make things right with you or get crapped on over at GBU forum. I'm kinda curious as to how much you paid for that Seb because if you paid fair market price for a used Seb I wouldnt be too upset. Mostly just be upset at being lied to and that would be taken care of with negative feedback.

No, I don't think you're overreacting at all. You got a knife that was in a manifestly different condition from what the seller described and took pictures/got feedback from others to confirm your own observations of the knife's conditions -- all without prematurely outing the seller, being dramatic, or doing any other things that would typically constitute overreactions at this stage.

One thing I'd suggest would be to ask a mod to move the thread back to the Feedback forum where you originally posted it, since at this point any utility of the initial move of the thread to the CRK forum (i.e., getting feedback/opinions on the edge) has been exhausted.

I've now sent 2 emails, 1 PM to the person in quesiton, and asked a moderator to move my thread back.

The price was fair for a used CRK, but i do feel somewhat slighted by the wrong description. Personally i feel your word is very important.

I hope i get a response soon. I haven't been rude in my messages at all, so it confuses me as to why the person hasn't replied back to me.
