The Morpho 51 and the Mini Morpho having only a 20$ difference and on amazon no difference at all…?

I get confused because some if not all the BM dealers have to hide their actual price until checkout. Who's kidding who?

That changed at the beginning of the year with an enforced MAP, so everyone is basically the same price.

Yeah, that's a bummer... the discount made all the difference.

My dealer has just a few left at old prices!!! :-( I have gotten 8 at old price,,,,, got 4 this month ,,,,, all discontinued Bone collectors( 2 for son!) may stop now with new prices coming on!?

I'm going to avoid commenting, only because Benchmade really did send me free low-rider pocket clips for my Griptilians, just for asking...

Ummm... they've always done that, even before their MAP change. Which reminds me, I need to order some more.

But - the retailers do not have to sell the knives at the price Benchmade dictates. The MAP only limits what prices can be advertised. If a retailer chooses to have a different price at checkout, or use coupon codes, or solicit emails to learn of lower prices, they can do that. If the sales prices of Benchmades are higher now than before the MAP agreements, it's because the retailers are choosing to sell them for higher prices.

I know I don't have many posts, but I've lurked for quite a while. There seems to be a lot of confusion with BM pricing. Their new pricing is not MAP. They've had MAP for some time. According to a certain Shoppe that sells Cutlery's FB page their new policy is Unilateral Pricing Policy (UPP). Long story short MAP is the lowest price their products may be sold for. Under MAP the product could be sold for what ever price, but only advertised at a minimum price.

Its not the retailers. BM is forcing the MAP from what I understand.
I don't think they can offer discounts at checkout anymore if they want to keep selling Benchmade.

I've heard of some getting a discount from local dealers(in person), but I haven't heard of people getting discount at online stores.
I tried, and was told they could no longer sell below the MAP. Said BM wouldn't let them.

You are correct.

In that case, we aren't dealing with a MAP issue exactly. It's a Minimum Resale Price Agreement. So, I guess the blame is on BM. As you said, BM can terminate its relationship with retailers who violate the agreement.

Saw ares1488 post after I entered mine. I agree, although I'm not sure we know whether it's a UPP or a Minimum Resale Price Agreement. I don't guess there's any functional difference - prices went up and they'll stay up so long as BM ensures no price competition among retailers.

Basically BM said "you will sell for x price or you will not be a BM dealer anymore." I've heard of small stores disregarding that. They would be violating the agreement.

You're sort of right in that a dealer may sell for less than MAP, but any dealer selling for lower than MAP runs the risk of losing their dealership. If they want to continue selling Benchmades, then they sell them at MAP.

MAPP pricing means More thAn Powernoodle will Pay. Seriously - I'm done with this bull, and can't see myself buying another new Benchmade. There are too many tasty blades out there from other manufacturers, with market forces at play that drive the cost down a little. I'd like to have one of the 940's with S90V and carbon fiber, but not at $263.50 plus shipping. Even a plain Jane Griptilian is $98 - $114 plus shipping, depending on the flavor. Its apparently a marketing strategery to sell fewer units at higher margins, and in a free market economy Benchmade is certainly entitled to do it. I've played along in the past (CRK), but there is a point at which you just gotta say no thanks.

Totally agree. Their prices are more than I am willing to pay anymore. Too many great options out there from other companies.
