Am I the only one who can't use SEARCH here?

I have emailed webmaster@bladeforums.com twice and gotten no response at all.

When I click on the SEARCH button, I get this message:

Have I done something wrong, the SEARCH used to work for me.

I wish my emails had been answered, and I didn't have to post this question here.

its down for basic members;) it like that for all of the baic members not just you...:D

I love my search capability.I search all the time.In fact , thats how I found this thread.I was performing a search for SEARCH.It's phenomenal.Greatest thing since sliced bread.I think I'll go search for the ultimate bread knife.

Yes, indeed you are.

It is an evil conspirocy and you have been chosen as the hapless victim.

Now you know, are you happy?:p

Yes you ARE. It only works for us members who know the secret handshake, and hold the key to the restroom.:D.

Seriously, I thought this was supposed to be taken care of during the down time last Friday. What happened?

I also find it very frustrating without use of the search. It also makes the forum a bit less enjoyable, since so many of the topics are now simply repeats of so many subjects already discussed. We are forced to start a new thread instead of seaching and reading the details on a past thread.

I had the same problem. It used to let basic members use the search function. That's okay, I just keep asking the same questions that have been asked over and over. But, that's better than secret handshakes in the men's restroom.
:D

I guess basic members aren't allowed to use the delete button either.

The BFC servers are at capacity, and there is currently no money to replace them. (The current servers are barely a year old!)

By disabling the search function for basic members, and disabling some other functions, and pruning threads, ect. it frees up server space, and allows it to run more efficiently.

Please be patient; Spark is doing all he can to make sure things are running smoothly, and he said he would reactivate the search function for basic members as soon as he could.

I think they're trying to tell us something...**hint** Maybe time to buy a gold membership?

You are certainly encouraged to become a Gold or Premium member, but no one is going to force it on you. The membership fees directly support the forums for things like server upgrades, software upgrades, ect. This place costs Spark a ton of money to run, and most of that money comes from sales at 1SKS, and your paid memberships.

I personally encourage you to become a paid member, but it is ultimately your choice. Think about how much enjoyment you derive from BFC, and think if $30 a year is worth it or not.

CODE 3: You bring up a good point. I would like to become a paid member. How is it done? Here I am, enjoying all of this informative discussion for free. I feel guilty now. Time to pay. How do I sign up? Imagine how it would be if this site became too expensive and shut down, because too many of us were not "signing up".

When you said that "this place costs Spark a ton of money" I really felt guilty. Why should Spark pay for me to have a good time? Time for me to sign up!!!!

The search function is the one thing the manufacturer's and knifemakers hate the most about this forum. Some have even stated as such. It allows their products to be easily assessed and design flaws to be tracked. Also when certain manufacturer's put their feet in their mouth or go off on a forum member, that is show their true colors, the thread will always pop up on a search. Kind of unforgiving, but it was real at the time the posts were made.

Sure hope this feature gets turned back on for basic users, since newbies are the most ignorant about the chronic problems with some of the major knive designs or brands.

Jay, just go to the top of the page and click on Get a Premium, Gold, Dealer or Knifemaker Subscription. Then just follow the instructions.

Don't let me 'guilt' you into becoming a paid member, because that is not my intent.

What I'm trying to point out here is that this place does cost money to run, and like any other business, if it can't pay the bills, it will close. Spark is committed to keeping this place open, but the costs to do so are rising, just like the cost of living is. Like I said, if you enjoy this place, and vaue all the information available to you, please become a paid member, but only if you think it is worth it. I certainly do.

I also encourage everyone to visit the exchange forums, and patronize the paid dealers here, as well as 1SKS. Your support of the member dealers also helps keep BFC going.

If you are interested in purchasing a membership, please click on the link I have posted, where you can use a credit card, and it will also give you a description of what your membership dollars gets you (besides what you get now)
