Am I the only one who liked the Mini Grip more than the Grip?

No, you are not alone. The mini grip is far better for my EDC needs. The mini Ritter even better.

I liked the minigrip more than the normal. Well, I think it just suits my needs better. More EDC friendly...can't feel in my pocket, and people aren't intimidated. D2 Cabela's here.

I agree, I like the mini better. I lost mine in London on vacation. It was taken away at the Mews (royal stables) at the start of the tour.

I think it may be time to buy a replacement.

I use my full size at the office for opening mail and packages.

Recently bought a standard RSK and a Mini RSK.
Kept the Mini and gave the standard away - and I normaly prefer larger folders.
With its full length liners and smaller checkering pattern on the scales, it makes the mini feel less plasticky and more solid in hand. The Mini is also more balanced in hand, the normal size grip felt blade heavy to me,probably due to it only having partial, not full length liners.

Since I've got the mini I've found it to be just perfect for keeping in my jacket pocket for when you need a small knife. In fact it is proving to be a close rival for my affections with my grey Calypso Jnr. Mine is the 555 with the hole and sheepsfoot blade which is great when working around the horses especially because it doesn't have a sharp point as such which makes it a little safer.

No Grippy experience, but I feel the same way about Sebenzas.

Love teh small ones but the large ones just don't feel right to me.

I also prefer the 556 over the 551 for several reasons:

The 551 is rather thick in the pocket and the handles sound cheap and hollow due to the partial liners.

BUT...for hours of heavy cutting, the larger Grips are hard to beat.

Cheers,
Allen.

For the majority of things that I do, the mini is better suited. It competes for cutting time with my Delica :D I do carry the 550 or equivalent larger folder for heavier cutting tasks when they up. Today, I have it instead of my paramilitary.

I have both and I'm an office worker. I carried the Mini for a couple weeks, writing the standard off as too large for dress pants. However, I began carrying the standard and honsetly, there isn't much of a difference. Now, if I pull the standard out in front of company, it's not exactly PC. So, I switch off, one stays in my bag and one stays on me. But as far as weight in the pocket and carrying it, there isn't much of a difference and no difference if we're talking Dockers.

For me the knife was fine with the exception of that area here in red.

This area here where the handle comes to a point is right where I want to rest my index finger when I hold the knife. The Mini Ritter Grip isn't alone here though. The Spyderco Delica and Salt and my David Boye folder all have the same damn thing on them and I've taken each one of them off and/or rebuilt the body to suit my hand on them because of it.

This has always been a puzzle to me as to why someone would put this here on the knife handle. I'm especially puzzled by Spyderco because they obviously eliminated this problem with the Calypso Jr. and many say it is the most comfortable knife in the hand and some contend it is the best knife in the Spyderco line up. Gee, I wonder why? Could it be that they have figured it out? These 'points' as I call them serve no purpose in my book. They just get in the way and make the knife a finger knife vs a hand knife by preventing you from holding the knife the way that would be most comfortable.

Take that 'point' off the mini grip and you have a good feeling knife IMO but beware. One guy tried it and exposed the springs underneath the handle that move the axis lock. Anyway, that is why I would go with the full size over the Mini. As you can see it is also something I've been bothered by with other folders too though. Whenever I get a knife like this I just zip it off or redesign that Calypso Jr. index finger rest into a new body. It is a night and day diff in the way it feels in the hand, so what if it looks odd. To me fit and feel is more important, but control of the blade is paramount. Being able to rest your finger there where that point is gives a lot more control over the blade by a large margin.

My Mini Grip is my EDC - until I get my Mini Ritter Grip.

I think these are the perfect size for EDC.

The "points" as you call them, are actually the "intergral forward guard".
They keep your index finger from sliding onto the blade when cutting or stabbing with a forward motion (especially if your hands are wet or slimey).

The blade and handle nexus, like on the Calypso Jr, is a choil.
It allows you to choke up on the blade for fine tip-work, but not everyone likes them since it takes up some of the cutting edge and puts the finger very close to that edge.

Happy hunting,
Allen.

The choil is also a guard in the fact that it too keeps your hand in place. If you look closely at the Boye knife I modified you will note that the 'guard' as you call it is still in place but just to the front of it is a nice finger size rest area for when you want to choke up on the handle and gain more control of the knife.

I guess it isn't so much the point that drives me knuts it is more the fact that they didn't follow through with it to give an optional place to sit your index. You can have both if you really look at it.

I have both the Mini Grip and Regular Grip, both in D2. I much prefer the Mini Grip over the Grip. The regular Grip feels too fat for me.

For my use, I find the mini to be much better for EDC. I like my D2 mini. Of course, I have been contemplating a Ritter grip for backpacking/camping.
