Is it just me or do other sebbie aficianatos leave their sebbie in a safe place while doing certain chores. Like if im working in the garden, painting my shed, working on my hot rod and getting greasy. I hate the fact that i baby my sebbie so much...Their are even whole days i leave it home cause i might get real dirty and dont want anything to happen to it. Im not kidding i might be bordering on obsessive compulsive disorder with this sebbie. Well just wondering how everyone else treated their sebenza.

I don't 'baby' my Sebenza. In weekends I carry it in the same pocket as my keys or Arc AAA flashlight, so the handles are really scuffed. I use it to make a sandwich, cut fruit, open letters/boxes...basically any normal cutting work that comes along.

I don't abuse it either. If it's real messy work around the house, involving chemicals / paint / glue etc. or cutting wires I take my PE or SE G-10 Spyderco Standard.

But, I have other knives that I 'baby' ;)

As a Marine my Sebenza has gone everywhere with me. Hours of immersion in salt water, weeks in jungles, months in the desert, "...every clime and place." I use it, rinse it with canteen water, dry it, lube it with CLP. My only worry is securing the lanyard to my belt with good knot!

It's just you, Doc ;) Every other one of us use our sebenzas constantly :D

i just got my first sebenza about 3 weeks ago (large classic unique graphic) and it hasn't left my pocket since :D

Mine go everywhere with me. Because of the ability to refurbish the knife, I don't worry much about getting it dirty or dinged.

Use mine all the time. No reservations about using it hard if I have to.

I did baby it the first few weeks that I had it though seeing as it's a decorated model.

i use my small as edc and it works, my damascus blades dont seem to get used however...due to the fact i have so many other"users" i guess

they sit on my computer desk, just to get admired....bah...got to break down and use em sometime :footinmou

My custom large Classic unique graphic with Damascus blade gets babied. Used, but not hard. My flat ground Sebenza with BG-42 steel is the one that does the dirty work. No holds barred for it! I guess it was the braking in point that was the hardest. After that first minor handle scratch is excepted, the rest is down hill. Have fun with it and use it to the MAX!!!

I've carried regular models and I've carried wood inlaid models.......if I sweat, they sweat....if I get dirty, they get dirty. I carried a large ironwood inlaid sebbie for a whole year and worked out in the yard during the hot & humid summer days we have here in the south and the sebbie went with me. At night a rub down with a soft cotton cloth and a little Ren Wax once every week or so kept it in pristine condition. Ended up selling it to another forumite who was so impressed with the condition he thought it nearly new! Of course it was taken care of but what I discovered was that the polished titanium does not scratch up like the bb ti does. The two woods I know have; a large curly maple 2003, and a large bloodwood Classic are rotated and both still look good..........very good! :D :)

well, ok then...i guess i am messed up. From now on im not gona baby it,from here on out its gona get dirty.

Dr. Sharp - you are just fine, but are suffering from nice/costly knife anxiety. Once you start using the sebbie, it will be even easier to use it more.

There was a thread some time ago where someone said they actually took one of their Spyderco Sharpmaker rods and scuffed the handle of a Seb to create an imperfection - which made it easier to use.

stop stop stop.....i agreed to use it more....im not ready to talk about intentional scuffing...maybe with a little therepy i can talk about a small scratch here and there..but no huge or deep gashes... ;)

OK, here's a little therapy suggestion for you. Use your Sebbie to split kindling, batoning down on the blade with another chunk of wood. Yes, this will scratch the blade, but so what? The effect is purely cosmetic (so long as you don't get carried away with the hammering, obviously). This will give you an idea of how tough the Sebenza is. And if you don't mind messing up another knife, you could do a comparison test. Do the same thing to the other knife, and see what the results are, in terms of increased blade play and possible lock failure. Believe me, this will put things in perspective.

And in case you're wondering, yes, I've already done this. ;)

Scratches, or as I call them: "character marks", just make the knife truly yours. Just enjoy your Sebbie and let "knife nature" take it's course. ;)

I've carried my small Seb EDC for three years now. Just got back in from the CRK refurbish shop sporting a new polish on the blade too.

She does culinary chores including meat, fish, vegatables and fruit. She goes along fishing and nips off the tag end of a knot and cleans the catch. It's easy to use hot soapy water to get her back to sparkling clean.

You know how some domestiques don't do windows? Well she doesn't do boxes, wires, scraping or other nasty chores. Why use a knife that runs three bills for third grade paper products that contain silica and staples? She needs to stay razor sharp and at the one handed ready. Anyway who in their right mind would only carry one knife? :D

Thats why you need a companion piece and what is better than a good Alox SAK. The awl on the SAK Farmer will open boxes with ease but won't slice the goods below leaving the Seb to the high class work that comes up numerous times a day anyway. The SAK's main blade is very capable and easy to come back razor sharp with a few strokes on the Sharpmaker.

And the happy couple together;

So not me. It has too many other daily uses to play one dollar box knife. Just one opinion out of many.

Now if I only had one more silver dollar and my Seb, I'm sure she could get me through, no worries.

Excellent pics BNHD. I too often pair my small Sebbie with one of my Alox V'noxs. They do make a great "couple".

If a sebbie and a sak are together, does that make them interbladed and if they go out in public do people stare. I thought that sebbie had a big blue thumb stud . Does you sebbie like polished blades or is he a coated kinda guy. ok im getting silly now.... :D
