I must be getting old & senile.

For about 10 years, I carried one knife, a Spyderco Worker, it was an extension of my hand & could grab it & flick it open in a blink of an eye.

The last few years, I have been adding to my spyderco collection & I randomly choose a "knife of the day". (it's always a struggle to choose as each knife has it's strenghts & attractions to me)

Later in the day, when I go to grab it, I don't instintivley know which knife I chose or if it's tip up or down & have to fumble with it to open it.

Luckily, I haven't had to use it for life & death situations, where a second would matter.

Yup, you're senile! :D

It can be a problem, and if it's that noticeable, you might want to separate your collection into up and down knives, and just go to one set for the week, maybe the other set the next week.

Or you could use a clue like a short lanyard on the tip up knives, so when you reach for them, you'll know right away which it is.

If it's a self-defense situation you're worried about, I just smash them with my cane first, and that gives me time to fumble for my knife.

what about glueing the knife to your hand?
that way, you gain at least 2 sec ! :D

and at the end of the day, at home, one litter of boiled water and you could remove it! ;)

I carried an Endura for about 2 years before picking a different 'knife of the day' as EDC. For a while, It was agitating to fumble with the knife and not having that feeling of 'knowing' its position and habit.

The lanyard idea, mentioned above, was helpful at first. Then, I started to feel for the Spydie hole through the pocket (the Spydie was in the pocket, I glanced a finger over the pocket for the hole) before drawing the blade. That way, I knew where the blade was (forward or to the rear, tip up or down) and how to draw it without fumbling. After few days of this, it was automatic and I could have the blade out and opened quickly. Hope this helps.

Yep, sounds familiar. I switch between a Delica and a BM TSEK. The BM is set for left hand carry, the Delica for right. There have been many times I thought I left my knife somewhere, only to find a different knife in the other pocket.

That's one reason why I don't rotate. I have my set of edc knives, quite a few infact since I carry a lot, and I stick to it. I know where everyhting is located at all times, and I'm always making sure it's there.

Also, as funny as it sounds, I get emotionally attached to my set of edc "hardware" and I just wouldn't feel right about rotating anyway.
Nothing more sad than a lonely knife.

I'm weird.:)

I carried a Spyderco Police for ten years, an Al Mar SERE 2K for eighteen months, and now I carry my large classic Sebenza.

I like to be completely familiar with the knife I am carrying, and don’t rotate between folders.

The Police and SERE are still great knives, but unless I choose to carry them full time they’re just going to sit in the draw.

I finally have a select few knives that I have no intention of ever trading, and most of them aren't safe queens, meaning I can't wait to use each one.

I am starting with the best and/or most expensive first:

I have a ZDP-189 Calypso jr (the best steel, great blade size, grind, handle shape) just am not thrilled with the color of the handle. - also would like an option to use g10 for the handle to stiffen it up.

Next is my only non-spyderco, a Buck Mayo TNT, if it had zdp-189 blade & some adonizing, it would be the perfect knife.

Next is my UK Penknife, it's fine without a lock, but if given a choice, I would add a lockback, and again zdp-189 steel, also it's a design team model, so it's my "dress knife"

I also have a Full sized Calypso with polished micarta & fully serrated blade in VG10, give me a plain edge one to make up a set & add zdp-189 & I'd be happy (still too big to carry to work, but so d*mn sharp !!!)

Then my R2 - serrated, it feels so good in the hand & I love the flat grid on the VG10 blade. to make it perfect, I would reduce the size to that of the calypso jr or delica. ( too big for work) - it does not prevent me from trying to trade for a matching R2 with plain edge. - also zdp-189 would kick *ss.

Then my Dyad jr. with polished micarta handles, add zdp-189, make it the size of the delica & it would have everthing I could possibly want in a single knife (I really struggle with whether to carry a plain or serrated edge- this has both) while it has both edge types, it is the only knife I don't feel could be relied on in an emergency defensive situation, either against mugger or attacking dog.

Then my stainless steel cricket - serrated - add zdp-189 & give me a matching plain edge version & I could die happy. (I would like to handle the yin-yang model, try to decide if it would make it too heavy or feel weird in the hand. It is so small, that it is not scary to sheeple, but would excel as a heavy cutter or a very scary slasher if the need arose.

I just recently aquired a set of Merlins, one plain edge & one serrated. -
I should buy all my knives in sets. again add zdp-189. these are deceptivly small closed, but open...watch out they are intimidating as hell - I use them in public with much discression.

Lastly, both my wife & I have serrated dragonflies on our keyrings held by Kydex key-fob sheaths made by Eric of "On-Scene Tactical" - I want a plain edge one to match also with zdp-189.

- Next on my wish list are the Centofante 4 (warncliffe) & the Ocelot

So many knives, so few pockets.
I feel like a fool carrying more than two knives in my pockets, one plain edge, one serrated (I do not count the dragonfly on the keyring or the merlin in the inside breast pocket of my coat)
