...who doesn't like stag? I've seen some I disliked less than others, but...I don't get it? What's the appeal? Texture?

Edit: OK. Just looked at a whole bunch. Some are kind of nice, but I'd still rather have bone.

Of almost all natural handle materials stag is my favorite. I've bought ugly knives just because they had nice stag.

Yes, just you, all alone, hating.... Just kidding! :D I'm really spoiled by the antique Sheffield stag and how they fit it thin and tight and lost almost nothing grinding it to fit - I really love that stuff. However, most modern stag doesn't even begin to compare, never mind how it's fit, ugh.... I'd far rather have good bone than mediocre stag -- and some bone is simply awesome.

Semi-Sort of with you.

I like Stag...if it looks good & does not have edges/points that cause irritation with use. I'd never buy a stag scaled knife sight unseen. I have a Case Copperlock from the initial run that has some of the ugliest Stag I have seen. Sentimental reasons is the only reason it's not been re-scaled.

Some of it just looks great. Some of the white stuff with what looks like painted on brown does not appeal to me.

Who's folksy and can't like a toasted stag handle on a slip joint? :D

Not me!

Good pearl, stag, bone, wood are all wonderful. The bad examples among them are exactly that. To my personal taste, the very best bone beats all of them. Purely subjective.

Oh, darn it Hal; you had to bring Herman in didn't ya! That changes things a bit. :)

Your all alone on your own little island...just kidding. I love stag but would rather have Schrade's older bone rather than bad stag.

Nothing beats nice stag. That's my opinion. To each his own man.

I'd rather have great stag than anything else, but given a choice between jigged bone and mediocre stag, I'll take jigged bone.

I like stag a lot, it has a lot of character. Every knife with it is very unique and gives a blade some personality.

OK, I redact part of my statement. Those are beauties. And I agree...it's the "white stuff with what looks like painted on brown" (great description) that I don't like. When I think stag, that's what I picture. Thanks for setting me straight.

You might just be the only one. Maybe you have not seen some great stag.

That is all I have to say about stag.

OK, I've figured it out. The smoother and more uniform in color, the more I like it. I guess I'm not a fan of the brown white stark contrast. But no offense to those who are.

tongueriver and thawk, I would be all over those. The rest, not so much. My personal preference only. Maybe it's cause I don't like to go to a party without a date (but do like terrible puns apparently).

Thanks for sharing the pics, guys. My wife just looked over my shoulder and slowly shook her head. Kind of like I do when she shows me shoes. We all have our passions and prejudices. Makes life downright interesting. :D
