Just wondering if anyone in the Amarillo area would like to have occasional get togethers to discuss knives or knifemaking. I am a beginner knifemaker and would like to swap hints and ideas with others.

I think its a good idea. I go to WTAMU in Canyon, right now I'm still at home in Ft.Worth, but I'll be heading up soon. I don't think I could contribute alot in the way of knifemaking, but I do have a small collection going and I'd like to learn more. By the way, is that knife store up there, Knives Plus, any good? Alot of places sell for list price, which doesn't appeal to me that much...just curious how that place runs things.

Woo Hoo! --GO BUFFS!--

I went to WTAMU and I used to go to Knives Plus a lot when I lived there. They have very good prices, they know their stuff, and they are all very nice people. The owner is happy just to "talk knives" with you instead of trying to make you buy something. (NO PRESSURE) They have the best selection I know of in the panhandle. I'm pretty sure the entire store is run by one family.

Right next door is a BIG gun store called Billy Fred's. If you like guns, you owe it to yourself to check it out. Nice people, fair prices, and again - great selection.

Sounds like you need to talk with Chris Christman of Top of Texas knives. He lives in Dumas and is a knifemaker. He would love to share ideas. His website is www.toptexknives.com give him a call.

Good to know that's a good place to shop. I'm glad there's somewhere to go, cuz sometimes I feel like the Panhandle doesn't have as many specialty stores as the DFW area, as I'm also into lighters, cigars, and such. I'll probably end up spending my extra dollars at Knives Plus!...haha. I would like to have some sort of get together, especially with people that can teach me something. AntDog, do you still live in the Amarillo area? I know there's some more on the forum than just 2 or 3.

You guys are right, Knives Plus is a great store. Knives Plus sells most of their knives for about 20-30 percent off retail. What I was thinking was maybe we could get together sometime in the next couple of months. We could bring our collections to show or trade, swap stories, etc... I could get a couple of people to come who know a great deal on knives and fixing / sharpening problem knives. I also have access to many manufacturer catalogs including the newest ones. My email address is zeidenz@aol.com. (I think its listed wrong in this directory.) Let me know...

Whoops, sorry I didn't check back on this post. I don't live in the Amarillo area anymore (I really wish I did), but I visit occasionally. I live in Houston now. I'd be happy to talk knives with you guys and I'd try to make it to a get together if I can. Here's my email address:
