After getting frustrated trying to get consistently good photos with my camera,I picked up an Epson Perfection scanner off e-bay. For $26 shipped, I can't complain. I still need to tweak the settings a little bit,and wipe off the finger prints, but I like the results so far.

I am definitely a scanner fan! You can get great detail; a wonderful tool for the collector and student of fine cutlery!

You get great depth of field on some also!

I've been using one for a while too. Lot easier than taking photo's and again and again... Software available to adjust the scans is great too.
Scans do kinda limit the great backgrounds you can get with photos.
but for the detail were looking for they are great.

I have a photo box and like the results. We also have a scanner but the way it is set up the only way I can get the scans emailed to me is in Word which won't post on any forum.I can't figure out how to convert from Word to Imaging.Arnold

Rick:
Could you list the model # and where you bought it?

Toby:
There must be a way to scan to a JPG file. Once it's in MS Word, it's pretty much a done deal.

TH, the scanner is a Epson model 1260, I think it is an old discontinued model. There has been a few each week listed from various sellers, most of them used, I got lucky and got one with all of the attachments and software. I used the settings from BRL's instructions for scanning knives.
I know a lot of people can take nice pictures with the right lighting and such, unfortunatly I'm not one of them.
Thanks Rick

Dang Rusty1, I feel like I can reach right out and grab that one!

Just off the top of my head , i havnt scanned for a while , i think with mine you could choose your format at scanning. but most files you can after saving , go back and open the file go to save as , at the bottom click the format button and it may let you choose save as j peg. these days mostly you dont have to scan the file via a MS platform like word, publisher etc , you just save the scanned file and save in whatever format you like . UPSTREAM,

Care to sell that knife? I am in Baghdad and the last one I had seen on Ebay( during my first tour in 2005) got away while I was on patrol one night. Made me sick. Know where I might be able to get my hands on one? Thanks

Im living in the dark ages here how does a scanner work you just put the knife on top of it and it scans it or what the hell? eiteher way its better than my crappy pictures.- Joel

Thanks for tip! I have used Epson scanner for years for flat work; never thought of using it for more 3 dimensional work. I have a light stand to do macro photography, but may push that to the back table if this works well.
