Speedform #84 was just delivered. To say I am pleased would be an understatement. I was not expecting such a, at least imo, heavy-duty knife. It has a very nice heft to it, with a well done pocket clip. Of course I would prefer a deep carry clip, but I'll get along with this clip because the clip is very nicely done, and everything else about the knife surpassed my expectations, and not because I was expecting less from Kershaw than what I got.

The fit and finish is perfect and I don't know anyway else to describe it. I haven't measured anything yet,but the titanium handles are thicker than I was expecting, and it is easy to tell that the blade is from .157" stock, just like the Volt, Tyrade, and the ZT line of knives. It is slender from top to bottom, nbut being flat ground it is a good slicer even with the thicker blade. The lockup is spot on with about 1/3 to 1/2 ot the blade tang being covered my the lock face. Of course there is no blade play in any direction, and the blade is perfectly centered.

I've said it before and I'll go ahead and say it again, Kershaw KNOWS how to build a framelock! And to bring it to market at the price it sales for just flabbergast's me!!

I think I was really expecting a "Gentatical" folder and one that would not be suitable for a heavier work load. Well Kershaw fooled me on that score! Had I previously known the weight of the knife was 5.2 ounces I would not been as surprised as I was at the H-D build, seems like I was thinking a 3.8 ounce knife, and I was actually buying it because I had purchased the Tyrade (ti), the Volt, and didn't want to miss out on this one.

Man, I am SO happy that Kershaw built us a MAN'S knife once again!!:thumbup::D

cutter,

I was already interested in this knife--what Kershaw fan wouldn't? But finding out the blade stock is .157" just moved this right to the absolute front of the queue. When production blades get to .150" or above, it's just a thing for me--I love a good, solid, thick blade.

The fact the whole knife is so damned cool to boot is delicious icing on the cake for me!

Best,

Heekma

Ya despite what many people suspected, the Volt and Speedform are both very heavy duty capable knives. And to top it off they both have features to keep the lockbar from over extending. Take your Speedform apart and check out how they cut the lockbar, its pretty ingenious really. I'm surprised Kershaw didn't mention that sweet little design. Anyways both are excellent knives and I hope they keep making more!

Yeah, the lockbar cut on the bias is my favorite feature of the knife. Just a really ingenious feature.

I don't believe many have noticed that either. Pretty smart of those guys in Oregon.
I am glad I was able to get one. It is a fantastic knife.

The cut on the lockbar is really a neat idea! I did measure the blade thickness and indeed iit was .157" thick. The handles must have started out at .180" because at it's thickest it measures .172", and the lock face is .137" thick. Of course my micrometer could be slightly off, but not by much if any.

The handles are really sweet because the way the are cut it causes one half to appear darker than it actually is. Depending on how the light strikes it it could be the top half one moment and the bottom the next moment. Another feature I like is the full length titanium handle spacer, another thing that really helps this be a solid knife. I said earlier it was a flat ground blade but it is actually what is called a saber grind (at least I think so). Again the pocket clip is really nice due to its precision cut, and is screwed into the back of the pivot with a pocket milled out to fit the base of the clip, and even though I would like a foldover deep carry clip, this one is so nice I don't want to give it up, and it is less than a 1/2" of knife sticking out of your pocket, this is just precision work! The slanted thumbstuds are another feature I like. Without a doubt this is the "THUNKEST" framelock I have. When it locks up you hear it! The more I sit here and handle it, and play with it, the more I like it, and the gladder I am that I decided to buy it.

Get 'em fast. I heard yesterday they are already discontinued and and the replacement will ship in December. It was a casual conversation with a distributor and could be wrong. I have no details.

There is one of the better internet/brick & mortar stores that still have a few to my surprise. I just bought another.

I believe they stated they had 3 left. PM if you want info, and no I gain nothing from it.
