Amazing new haft question

By some miracle, I found the nicest 28" fawn's foot haft I have ever seen; at a Rona store. Beautiful straight, uniform grain. So here's my question: If you found a perfect 28" haft, what would put on it?

The spares I have on hand for boy's axe sized heads (2 to 2 1/2 lb) are 28 inch. Shoulders on these are set well enough back that I can trim 2 inches off if I want. In your case I'm thinking, since Rona Hardware is a Quebec-based company, they likely carry 'made in P.Q.' Garant-made handles. Quebec has always been known for making excellent wood products. "Garant et fils Ltee." apparently experimented with non-native Hickory for tool handles about 100 years ago (instead of their local ash, oak and maple) and promptly switched their handle-making operations over entirely and henceforth imported their wood from the south east US.

At 28" I'm assuming its a boys axe handle. That's what to put on it. If it has a full size eye then look for a light full size like a 3-pounder.

Beauty.
I found a really nice "Ideal" handle at a local hardware store years ago and that handle got me into axes before I owned anything but a fiskars hatchet.
It ended up going on a cheap hardware store head and my dad uses it for grubbing arond the yard but I still heft it now and then just to feel it.
I never had anything close to it until I had my first Gransfors, and can't really find any info online. It had a yellow butt with a kind of truck bed liner grip paint.
With a name like Ideal it's hard to get accurate hits on the internet.

That's a sweet hang. I figure I will just wait for the right thing to come along. In your case, it was clearly worth the wait.

Thank you. I think it was worth the wait. I had left the varnish on it when I was storing it in my garage. I hoped it would help the moisture out and keep her straight. Before I hung the Montreal pattern on it I sanded the varnish off and stained it with a dark walnut color, then several coats of BLO.

Smart. Best not to leave a handle raw for any length of time.
