I started a thread a while back about one of my favorite Schrade Old Timer patterns, the 15OT Deerslayer. In that post, I laid out a lot of information that came from research and networking with other Schrade collectors. Since then, nearly every week that has gone by, some other obscure detail, or special edition, or varient has come to light. Just when I think I have the sheaths nailed down, another style pops up. Same for the tangmarks and private issues. Even broken and abused examples tell a tale as autopsies give out details of manufacturing processes.

What started out as a quest to find the manufacturing history of a simple popular Schrade hunting blade pattern has become quite an odysey and adventure. I never would have guessed that my first SCHRADE-WALDEN 15OT had such a long and varied history and so many charming (though not always true or varifiable) stories attached. This one blade is described as a "skinner", "butcher", fighting knife", "buck knife", and a half dozen other name tags. It is claimed by some to have been designed by Ted Williams himself, though I doubt the truth of that one. Six or seven sheath designs have surfaced each reflecting a mini-era of American tastes. I liken it to an archeology dig.

Thank goodness I did not persue the common Sharpfinger. Even the 165OT, pedestrian as it appears, has quite a tale to tell. Has anyone else here tried a similar project with a common Schrade knife?

PS: Any information you have to share about these 15OT patterns would be appreciated. I have a feeling I have only scratched the surface!
