Well, about three weeks ago, this happened:
www.bladeforums.com
In that thread, Peregrin suggested buying a new knife, because we all know that the best way to get aver a concussion and whiplash is a new knife.
So I decided to take his sage advice.
I went to the "Big River" site, and typed in "Survival Knife."
I ended up seeing the JXE JXO Fixed Blade Tactical Knife with Sheath, Durable 420HC Steel Blade Outdoor Heavy Duty Knife, Survival Knife with Ergonomics Rubber Anti-skidding Handle, and knew that I needed this to be able to survive.
Due to a shipping error, the first one did not arrive, so they sent another one...then the first one DID arrive, and they said I could keep it too. This makes it so I can keep one as it comes, and regrind the other.
It is made of stock that is 0.228" thick.
It is 0.100" thick behind the edge!!!
It cuts paper with the edge it ships with, but once that edge is gone it wouldn't go through anything, I am sure.
Here it is:
Packed with shredded coloured paper, and comes with a ferro rod that is also a whistle. Will it work? We'll find out later.
It looks like if a Medford Praetorian and an Extrema Ratio mated, and this was the offspring.
Thick!
The tip is so stupid thick it makes the Praetorian look dainty:
It is 14.4 ounces with the sheath; 11.6 ounces on its own.
Well, let's go survivaling, shall we?
It rained on us the whole way out.
A few weeks ago it was bone dry, but not anymore! I cleared the fire pit of old, soaked coals, dug down to original level, and then lined the deepest part with some deadwood that was sort of almost dry:
I pushed over some standing deadwood trees and dragged them over to the site. My brother sawed them into shorter lengths while I went in search of more standing deadwood.
All our kindling was soaked. Nothing dry (mushrooms growing, which is rare out there). Time to split some wood to expose the dry core.
Knives, because life...
So you're at work and nothing much is happening right then. Time to take pictures of your knives, in this case the Benchmade Resistor and Gravitator (old school Benchmade Snody goodness :)): Then you get done work. Your relief is 5 minutes late so you miss the bus. Your Oakleys...
