That is great! Thanks! I will also add them to the "Supplier's list". Do you have an address for them?

One other question. How many different kinds of amber are there? I have heard of Copal amber, now Morrocan amber, what other kinds are there?

one note: most of the amber sold by knife suppliers is 'reconstituted' amber...actually it is resin..real amber beads cost BIG bucks...glenn hornby had a real amber bead necklace that he paid almost 2k for...the reconstituted stuff is very soft and can be burned very easily with your buffer....you can NOT slack belt it as it is too soft and will give way easily...to make knives like D'Holder you need to shape the whole knife with a hard wheel or a disk so that the belt doesnt dig into the amber. its one of the softest materials i have ever used on a handle. be forewarned.

Hello all!
C L, the most common thing over here in europe is baltic amber. It can be found on the beaches of the baltic sea, best after storms who agitate the waters. But, as the woods these ambers are from were much bigger than the baltic sea, it can be found in most of the countries east of the sea, too, just by digging in the right areas. There is a certain earth called blue clay (it is light blue in colour) where it can be found. they dig out big pieces of different colour and sell them at prices from 150 to 1500 $ for a kilo (= approx. 2 pound 2 ounces). Colour varies widely from nearly white over honey, red to nearly black. There are water clear ambers and some who look like frozen milk this is the effect of small air bubbles enclosed in the resin. The most expensive pieces are the dark red, clear ones. Sometimes you may find pieces with inclusions. These are small leafs from trees, insects and spiders and other small critters trapped in the resin some million years ago. These are a rare find and can be very expensive.

And Tom Mayo, check your software. Seems to me you are producing double posts en masse.

Hope i could be of some help.

Achim
