Hey makers and collectors, do you know of any place I could buy some premiere amber stag? Preferably tapers.

Thank you,

Bill

Bill,
I need this information too.

I have a hard time finding good stag tapers whether it's dyed or not. What I am going to do is to find the good Stag, if I can, and send it to Culpeppers to have them dye it. I have some I collected from the Blade Show a couple of years ago and will send it to get done soon. Lin

knifehandles.com has some nice stag crowns, also i have a nice puma hunters friend with an awesome sambar stag handle

At the Nwe York show this year there was a guy that had some good dyed pieces

My brain is fryed so I can not remember his name but I might have his card.

Maybe Mr. Gill would remember

Bill I think the best bet is to buy tapers from AKS and send them out to get treated Chuck can tell you where.

That was actually less than helpful, Joe. Good job!

Thats what I do. Culpepper & Co will amber dye them. Alpha has some already dyed too. It takes 4-6 weeks to have your own done.

I went ahead and sent out several to Culpepper's today. They will be done by the end of the month. Lin

I believe Culpepper dyes stag in batches of a kaulzillion, so your timing in hitting when they have a batch scheduled is everything in regard to how it takes to get it back.

I have heard of folks using everything from teas to shoe polishes to chemicals to wood stains to dye stag.

I've been duped!!! STeven told me that stuff came from a real Amber Stag.

Masecraft in Meriden CT had some nice pieces, but they were not dyed.

Thanks everyone, it looks like sending some to culpeppers to be dyed is the answer.

It was actually from a stag that had been using that instant tanning cream, Paul. That's why it is kind of orange.:D
But seriously, folks.....it is probably a good idea just to have Culpepper do it for you. I looked at their booth the last two years at Blade, but they only had amber scales for sale. Most of the "whole pieces" that I have seen for sale have been rolls. I guess folks tend to leave nice gnarly tapers in their natural state. I use Fiebings on my tapers.
