Some folks have expressed their disappointment in the new Benchmade 761 because is only has a RH thumb stud. I also wanted to have ambidextrous thumb studs, so I called Benchmade and they sent me ambidextrous thumb studs that fit perfectly on the 761.

Good call. I did the same thing with my 790 Subrosa. The standard studs make opening the knife much easier.

The stock stud is good looking. However it's a little small and sharp feeling. I don't want to change it though. Gluten for punishment.

I too did it with the subrosa.Glad you posted this, I was disappointed when I saw this model came out with single stud. wasn't sure if there was enough clearance for the stud on the lock side. if you re install the clip does it get in the way at all ?

If you're referring to my post, there's neither an issue with the clip or replacement stock studs. There's just enough room on the lock side.

Good to know, I found the stud to close to scale for my liking so I modified it to fit my needs. May go with the dual stud also.

Hey rummels, what model is that thumbstud from?

I contacted BM and was told that they don't have one that spans the countersunk area where the RH only stud is attached by the screw.

Unfortunately there was no documentation that came with the studs.

The woman at Benchmade that I spoke to told me that she would ask the people who actually worked on the knives. She left the phone and when she came back she told me that they had something that would work.

My only suggestion is that you call again and tell them that other folks have gotten studs that work perfectly, and possibly describe the studs as depicted in my pictures at the start of the thread. Push back on them a little as the info you received is clearly incorrect.

It's proven a little frustrating to explain what I wanted. I was told it won't work. Even showed him this thread. I don't want to be too forceful as I do really like the company. We'll see how it goes...

I think I will give them a call. I think it will be hard for them to argue with me when I tell them that I already have the studs on my knife. If I can get them to send me another set I will post the info and we can figure out a way to get them to you.

Unfortunately Benchmade did not note the thumb stud model they sent me in my account's records. I spoke to them a little while ago and they are sending me what they think are the correct thumb studs. If it turns out that these are the correct studs, I will post which model they are. Then we can figure out a way to get them to you.

One additional comment. The studs that I have on my 761 do not completely cover the countersink where the RH stud was attached by the screw. But it covers all but the last .003-.005 of the countersink. It is very difficult to see that the stud does not cover it completely. I doubt anyone would notice unless it was pointed out to them.

Thanks for all the help rummels.

Does the stud stay in place? BM said it would shift around because of the countersink.

The studs are rock solid.

The stud that is on the side with the cone-shaped countersink (the LH stud) centered itself in the countersink without any effort on my part.

There is about a .012 inch difference between the height the ends of the studs are from the surface of the blade because the LH stud sits slightly inside the countersink. But I can't image anyone noticing this with the naked eye.

Griptilian studs are what you want if anyone else is wondering about doing this. They fit perfectly and have better grip than the original single stud.

Very nice, and kudos to BM to helping out with the request. Now if they just put a couple more holes in the handle for tip up and a little stronger detent it would be perfect! ;)
