Ambidextrous Knife Opening, or Not - Survival Fail

Okay, all-in-all the procedures to repair damage in my hands is going quite well. But, for periods of time, one hand or the other isn't available to assist in day-to-day activities. For me, lots of activities include using knives.

What I discovered was that I basically could not open my assisted open folders with the off-hand, left in my instance. My trying to do this quickly became a source of amusement for those around me and of course frustrating from my view. When the knife did open it usually took me by surprise. This whole episode was not something I had expected as I used many tools in either hand over the years, including hammers, screwdrivers, and wrenches.

As it is now, I am at about 50% on just picking the Blur up and giving it a try. Also, I try to open it successfully several times each sitting. The only acceptable result of this training is to have the knife open on demand.

That is why the best survival knives are fixed blades....

(Just tried to open by Spyderco Southard with my LH, and I can do it, although
not as fast as my RH)

The pocket clip on the blur does not even support lef pocket carry, unless you want to use tip down. Only safe way to carry it and it's akward to withdraw and use.

I just tried opening and closing all of my folders with my right hand (southpaw) and the only one I had a problem with was the Cold Steel Pocket Bushman, but that's because the thumb stud isn't ambidextrous (it's removable so you can reverse it but obviously not something you do to quickly open with your off hand). It may be the Speedsafe mechanism which biases the blade strongly towards the closed position. I took the spring off of my Echelon because it was getting somewhat dangerous to open and close with it in there.

This is news to me, I easily open all knives with both hands, and my knives switch pockets from time to time as well. Switching hands hasn't ever occurred to me as a problem.
Now, I have all flippers and knives with spyderco holes, so it's really easy.

I just carry a matching, but mirror image knife on either side. Spyderco Military in all black on right side. Left-handed Spyderco Military in natural finish on left side. No Problemo!
