Awhile back there were several posts about how cold we all were. Well this morning it is -47 F in North Pole, AK. That's not counting any wind chill.

It is great for cryo treating knives outside.

Stay warm and stay cool! Bill Burke I wish you were here.

87 deg dif
it was in the 40's here today:confused: man that is not right for here at the end of Jan BUT
Bob you can have it  :) I do feel for you though:(

I have read that the Finns will leave new blades outside in the winter to help the quench along. Most of the steel manufacturers specify -100°F or lower.

I't 50°F here this morning which is a few degrees higher than the high for the day should be this time of year. March will bring the winds and spring will be here sometime after that. It is much better than -47° though. I haven't been that cold since the '70s in northern Utah and Wyoming.

Well, weather is hitting the +40 Celsius consistently over here lately. You just can´t sleep without some medicine - of the kind that comes in cans and must be applied very cold... ;)

North Pole is 11 miles South of Fairbanks. The town was incorporated 50 years ago in the hopes of attracting a major toy company who would advertise "Made at the North Pole". Everyone has to have a dream. It has warmed to -30 F and we experienced the third coldest Jan on record. So much for our global warming.
I actualy don't utilize the outside for cryo treatment but I do use it to deepen the thermal cycles.

While true, and I admire your ambient temperature and wish I could experience it, at that (-47 F) it will still take some time. Over night at that warm a temperature will not do it. In fact it is relative. Lack of heat only increases the progression. The hot Sun beating down upon the desert floor will do it but not in our life time. Minus 47 F over nigt sure wont hurt though.
